I just took my last Bextra. What can I expect when I start Mobic
tomorrow?  Should I worry about driving the first day? Thanks - Diane W

Hi, Diane,
I've been taking Mobic for about 4 months and really didn't notice any
difference from when I took Celebrex.  No grogginess, at least for me.

I don't recall having any alertness problems with it.

But on the other hand, Mobic (Mobicox in Canada) did not do a thing for
me anyway.  Neither did Celbrex.

That's how I ended up on Bextra.  I see my RD next month....not sure
what I can take, as I already have stomach problems, and all of the "old
school" NSAIDs upset my stomach.

have you tried arthrotec?
Misoprostol is used in this combination medicine to prevent stomach ulcers.
Misoprostol reduces stomach acid and replaces protective substances in the
stomach that are inhibited by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
and aspirin.

Misoprostol can be prescribed separately also.

Diclofenac is the NSAID in arthrotec.

No, I haven't treid that one.

I think my GP may have mentioned that one, when I was asking him the
"what now?" question after Bextra was pulled.

I'll have to mention that to my RD when I see her next month.

I never realised how much I needed the Bextra until this heatwave hit
us.....I have not been in this much pain in almost 3 years (when the RA
first showed up) :(

Interesting.

So theoretically, the Misoprostol in the arthrotec would work in
combination with my current stomach medication (Prevacid).

Thanks for the info.

Yes Brad, you would need to continue the Prevacid.  When my RD put me on
Arthrotec he told me to continue Nexium also.

My GP gave me a prescription of Arthrotec on Friday.

I haven't filled it yet, but he did warn me that one of the side effects
could be a few days of diarrhea until my system adjusts to the
Misoprostol.

Anything else to watch out for?

I'm doing ok on the Mobic. No side effects that I can tell after almost
two weeks. It did take about 5 days for it to kick in and I have had a
bit of indigestion from time to time but it was also expected due to
what I had eaten.  don't know about Arthrotec.  Good luck with it.

Brad, the arthrotec also caused my stomach to be "woozie".  I didn't want
anything to eat; the thought of eating made me slightly nauseous.  This
lasted almost a week.
This was when I was taking two tablets a day, AM & PM.  I now take only one
tablet in the AM and am doing well on that; my RD was pleased that I am
doing well with just the one tablet daily.

I've finished my first week of arthrotec (50 mg twice a day).  The only
thing it did (stomach wise) was give me some extra gas.

My shoulders are feeling pretty good, and the aches are slowly going
away.

Diane, My husband was on Mobic for a short period of time...The only thing
that I can add....If you have problems with BP...Keep an eye on it...It did

Oh great! BP Problems.  That was the problem I had with Vioxx really
bad.  Celebrex and Vioxx both bothered my stomach although if I took
the liquid Vioxx my stomach was ok. I suspect it was the lactose in
them. Haven't looked up Mobic to see if it has lactose in it. Maybe I
can find out from the pharmacist. I didn't take the Bextra one day just
to see what happened an boy did I notice a huge difference.  As I
recall, the others all worked as an anti-inflam, although Bextra did
work the best. And they all caused my ankles to swell, with Bestra
being the least.  So....I'll let you guys know in a day or two!  And
thanks for the heads up on the BP -- I'll set my monitor out so I
remember to check it.  Diane W.

yeah, i agree.  bextra helped me most, but it also scared the pony out in
the barn!  i though my pcp was going to have a heart attack while she was
thinking i was having a heart attack.  i had an allergic reaction to
mobic--throat and tongue swelling.  wish i didn't have.  rd didn't prescribe
anything else after that.  so i'm taking zyflamend (non-'script), which i
think is too mild, but helps a teeny bit.  hope the mobic works well for
you,dianew.

Hi Diane,
I've been on Mobic since Vioxx was taken off the market. You
shouldn't have any problems with drowsiness, as it's just an nsaid. I
haven't had any tummy or b/p problems with Mobic. I haven't gotten any
relief from it either
:(  I still miss my Vioxx! Hope it works well for you. I know it does
for some.

Diane,

I've got good news for you.  I've been on Mobic for going on three
years and have never had any major problems.  When I first started I
got some mouth sores but used L-lysine and that took care of them.  It
worked great for me.  Hope it does for you too.

Well I took my second Mobic today and I think it worked a bit better
today than it did yesterday.  My finger joints don't hurt as bad today
as they did yesterday. It's not working as well as Bextra did but then
my rheumy said it might take 3-4 days to kick in. But I did feel a bit
dizzy for a few hours after I took it and my stomah is a bit burny.
Both things could be from other causes like Mobic combined with the
other meds I'm taking. So I just have to wait and see. I'm really
hopping it works -- cause I've felt crappy the past three days!  Thanks
for the advivce to all of you!  DianeW

i wouldn't think so... mobic is a nsaid not a pain medication.  you should
react to it like taking ibuprofen, naproxen sodium, celebrex, vioxx, etc
