I talked with the portland zoo and they have wheelchairs and scooters
available on a first come first serve basis.  They have lots of
benches and sitting areas.
Wheelchairs $ 6.00
Electric Scooter  $20.00
The Portland zoo has it's own max stop (light rail), and they give a
50 cent discount on the tickets if you have a max stub ticket.  I had
the most interest in the zoo but there was also interest in the
gardens.

Chinese garden is ADA accessible, but they do not have wheelchairs or
scooters.  They have many benches and sitting areas.

Japanese Garden has steeper paths and claim they are not ADA
accessible but they say folks with wheelchairs can make it around if
they have assistance.  Many sitting areas.
here is the access information:

I have heard that of the gardens the Japanese is the most spectacular.
You can take the max and bus  not worry about parking.

So think about what you want to do.  I will probably do the Imax Nile
movie at 1pm on Friday unless there are other that want to do it at
another time.

So let me know if you have strong preferences.  I was at the
Bonneville locks and saw big salmon and many shad making their way up
the ladders. The sea lions were chased off,  multnomah falls and the
drive up the Gorge are spectacular and there are some nice wineries in
the gorge.  You can easily make a day of the gorge.  There would be
more walking but not excessive. -- MZ

I mentioned to Charlie that just because we can drive from here to Portland
in one day, we don't have to drive it in one day.  So we just might make it
to the movie.  But it is a maybe depending on what else we stop for.
Thinking Ryan would enjoy either the jet boats on the Rogue out of Grants
Pass or the Animal Park in Winston.  Also thinking as my brother used to
say, I should have been born rich instead of so doggone good looking.

Having made the journey from Salem to Stockton (and back) too many times to
count, I am with you on this one, Jo. Traveling with kids makes it
especially tempting to do it all in one day, but you miss a lot of
opportunities for fun and scenic areas.

Rachel is looking forward to having someone to pal around with while we're
up there and I'll be sure to have her bring some of her favorite
distractions to share.

Sounds great the Nile is showing at 1pm.  The Jet boats on the Rogue
are really fun, but windy so take a scarf, also the weather is
starting to  sour on us.  It looks like a low will be moving in mid to
late next week.  You could do the Rogue trip on the return and if you
wait until Thursday you will see us on the river. If it rains next
weekend we might wind up at Omsi anyway.  Hopefully the bad weather
clears out by Tuesday when we launch on the Rogue.  BTW I like Jerry's
jets the best.
