A weekend which spilled badly into the first part of
the week. My last showcase [dance recital] in the
northeast was on Sunday and when we got there about 11
am I was to discover that I was on last. To close the
show. This is reserved for the best of the best so
naturally I panicked. lol I am never usually nervous
for these anymore but not this time. Did manage to blow
of some of that adrenaline energy practicing a couple
of times.
It went very well and I was pleased. ChaCha-ed my
little feet off and managed to follow Jimmy's lead and
everything. lol Was right over my feet and this new
knee working like a charm.
So I go to the dressing room [nearly 5 pm] to change
amid 'good for you' 'great job' and my favorite from a
former teacher 'my girl is back!'. Like I said -
nothing like a new knee. I took off my costume and then
my pantyhose and then pulled off the moleskin I had put
on my feet around 2 to protect my feet edges from those
hateful latin shoes. Adeline still flowing. Always feel
a twinge when taking that stuff off. Standing talking
to people in my underwear and suddenly think to myself
- that twinge is still there. That stupid stuff managed
to rip the skin off the bottom of my foot. I had been
standing bare foot on the hotel carpet bleeding happily
into the rug and letting whatever germs there might be
there mingle with my bodily fluids. So now I am
standing stork like looking at my foot and when it
begins to drip into my shoe I asked for help. Someone's
kitchen towel was applied and then someone else had
Band-Aid's. One filled quickly and then another. So she
just emptied her box on to my foot. A another lady who
was a nurse put me in a chair and had me put pressure
on it for a full three minutes. Stole someone else's
watch so I had a target time to shoot for. That worked
well. Thanks heavens I didn't drive there but had my
friend take me to the ER instead of home.
John met me there. They put some sort of pressure white
stuff on it; and even though I told the doctor that I
was on Rituxan and had just had my Remicade on
Wednesday AND I had a knee replacement, he told me that
I did not need an antibiotic.
Got up on Monday morning and called Ortho's office.
When the call was returned, he first started with 'what
did you do' and then said 'God, yes you need an
antibiotic'. HA!! I also had a call in to the RD's
office to confirm I should stop the Arava [again] and
the call back began 'what did you do'. I just love my
doctors. They just shake their heads and let me run
head long into walls. So yes, I should stop the Arava.
Got to take my first bath since Sunday morning last
night. It was nice. Now if this toe would stop bleeding
[more like spotting]. Finally figured out this morning
that I should stop my NSAID.
Who has my brain and what did you do with it.

Yikes! take care Duckie I want you on the raft trip but don't worry I
have a self bailing raft, even for blood. No wonder John asked me
about the first aid kit! Yes I have lots of mole skin, band aids
(even trauma bandages) and anti-bacterial ointments; it is better than
anything I have at home. I even have splints..... lolol! I have a
nice lounge seat for the front so you should be comfortable with no
walking and you can keep your feet up. I promise to take good care of
you! I have a good supply of vioxx..... whoops I guess I need to have
a stash of ibuprofen.
Long term forecast is starting to look a bit better with normal
temps hopefully it will be in the 80s. Yesterday and Monday they had
snow in the cascades!!!!!! My dahlias have flower buds and the roses
are in bloom.... so the plants are optimistic! March weather in June
so much for Oregon! It has been cool and wet.

You can keep the moleskin -- that was what caused this
mess in the first place. Should have known better - I
am allergic to tape. But I had been using it for about
3 weeks but never longer than an hour.
So when did he ask about the first aid kit. lol

Duckie dear, if I see your brain around here, I'll send it right back! That
was a lousy way to end a very good showcase; hope it heals very quickly and
all the meds get back in order right away.

Sending healing prayers your way that that foot heals quickly and with
no infection or any other complication. May you be as good as new by

BTW, have you been watching the new reality tv show called Dancing with
the Stars? Makes me think of you everytime I see it!
Duckie - 09 Jun 2005 06:43 GMT
Yes and tonight my vote goes to the first couple [think
she was a model] who did the rumba and the tall steal
gray haired man who did the quickstep. Both would have
gotten really good scores from me if I was judging but
the man would have gotten higher marks because what he
was doing was much MUCH harder. You mess up those steps
and it is hard to correct. Last week I was really
impressed with the boxer because he was enjoying
himself so much but this week was not his week.
I keep tripping over the show by accident but have
really enjoyed it.

{{{{{{{{{Duckie}}}}}}}}}} Your doctors sound like the one I had in NY.
He always used to say "What did you do?" which was generally followed by
"And how old are you now?" since I used to do some things that I was
probably too old to be attempting :-) I so envy you being able to dance
like that. I think it's so beautiful to watch. I have been getting DVDs
from the local library since I've been home all the time and I recently
saw "Shall We Dance" with Richard Gere, and I thought of you. It was
such a beautiful movie and I cried at the end :) I'm such a romantic.
Take care of yourself!
Hugs,
Carole

Duckie, Glad to hear that you are healing... I wish that I could dance like
that...Never ever have I been able to Dance..LOL...It would be a site...
But I think that maybe you should call that Silly Doctor in the ER and give
him a courtesy Medical Lesson...
Amazes me that he doesn't know this...

it's great hearing that you new knee is all you hoped it would be! now,
you can go on dancing and dancing and dancing. cool. sounds like you were
right on top of your game and had fun doing it. wudda loved to have watched
you.
but you can quit doing that bleeding stuff. my duckie needs her blood, so
quit wasting it, y'hear?<smile> truthfully, i don't get these doctors at
all, don't understand them a whit. the one you saw in ER must have been of
the same mindset as my husband was---"if you bleed enough, it means you
won't get infected, cuz bleeding cleanses the wound."-- and i always thought
that was suspect. geesh, i still can't believe that after the litany of
good reasons you gave him, he still didn't think you needed antibiotics.
take good care of yourself, sweetie. gimpfest is coming up in just 8 more
days. 8 days! just 8! yeah.

congratulations on the dancing! If only you'd done as well with the ER doc
you drew LOL Thank goodness you have the sense to check with your other
docs and prevent that infection from even starting. I feel for you - sliced
my finger on the screen door latch last Sunday and the blasted thing kept
reopening on me. Monday I bled all over a chair (fortuantely on the sheet
covering its filthy original upholstery until I get around to making a new
cover). Threw that sheet in the washer with some other stuff, later
discovered I'd "left my mark" all over the wall beside the chair.......
Heehee, so what is it with this crowd that refuses to letarthritis stop them?
LOL, I've never forgotten my first RD looking at me and, shaking his head,
saying, "you know you could just slow down a bit!" As I tolk him, I HAD
slowed down - some - and any more would leave me bored which would just make
me even sicker...... He saw my point.
