Hello all. I have been a lurker here for quite some time, rarely a
poster. I have RA, as yet uncontrolled. I'm on methotrexate, humira,
plaquenil, prednisone, lexapro, maxzide, atenolol, folic acid,
vitamins, lorcet plus, soma, neurontin, flexeril, etc.... I feel like
the list is unending.
On Thursday of this week, I am scheduled to have a transposition of my
ulnar nerve and release and repair of my 'tennis elbow' tendon. Was
wondering if anyone here had experienced either or both and how painful
it is and what type of recovery can I reasonably expect.
Thanks for your input.

I had the ulnar transposition surgery on my right elbow last October & had
to wear a splint/cast for three weeks on my right arm. The ulnar
transposition surgery alone took 2 1/2 hours as an outpatient procedure. I
took a couple of Vicodin a day during the three weeks, pain wasn't severe.
The incision (about 4") was a bit tender following the removal of the cast,
but only if I bumped it against a table, etc. The numbness in my small
finger, ring finger and side of my right hand down to my wrist has not
improved since the surgery. The neurosurgeon says the nerves should
regenerate at a rate of 1" per month, or perhaps longer if the condition was
severe (it's been close to 9 months). Other than the current numbness in
my elbow in the area of the surgery, I haven't had any complications. Best
of luck in your surgery!

Thank you for your reply. The doc decided that the nerve wasn't
damaged enough to warrant the risks of transposition at this time. I
would up just havng the tendon release/repair. I would have preferred
to move the nerve now, before there is a lot of damage but the doc is
hopeful that it will settle down now that the tendon is repaired.
Guess I will just have to wait and see.

I have my fingers crossed that the release and repair fix you up!

My ortho surgeon had a brace formed for me to wear at night and as much as
possible in day. It held the arm out fairly straight. Then he said try
rolling a towel and placing inside elbow at night after I quit using brace.
It took care of the problem, at least the last about 4 years I have been
o.k. You might give the towel thing a try.
