I don't know how I ever got 12 years into RA-land without ever having had
PT. Finally the pain in my back forced me to do something, but it's only
been a year, maybe it just needs more time.:oP

The therapist, Mike, was awesome. Soft-spoken and chatty...I like that. He
did an examination of my spine, did some informal measuring and comparing of
my ankles and pelvic bones and determined that my right side was anterior
of(to?) my left, by quite a bit.

The good news is that it's all musculature that needs to be retrained and
nothing to do with RA or joint dysfunction. The pain comes from the set of
muscles that run from the lumbar region, down the flank. They are in knots
and it causes pain because they are bunching up over the SI nerve. He did
some minor manipulation and then had me lay face down for a wonderful
treatment of ultrasound therapy, massage and heat. I didn't want to leave.

I was sent away with a list of exercises to do over the weekend and will be
going back on Tuesday for more adjustment, massage and core stretching
exercises. I can't wait!:o)

If this cold would just go away, life would be perfect. My concern is that
it will become a sinus infection, so I haven't done my Enbrel injections for
over a week. Soon I will be in more pain.

There is just nothing like a good PT therapist. Just
finished my cycle for this bursitis and while there I
mentioned the trouble I was suddenly having with
pivots. She was able to figure that out by watching me
do them by myself. Jimmy and I had been trying to fix
them working on the leg that seem to be the offender.
She promptly said it was the other leg [one we were
working on] and that I was sitting into the hip. The
pivots were almost immediately better but the leg is
still weak so it will take some time.
I had the same lady for my rehab after my knee replacement.

w0w!  mike sounds like somebody i'd want at my beckon or call.  (but then,
almost anybody can ultrasound, massage, heat treat me and i'd be content to
return for more.<sitting up, paws extended and bent, tongue lolling to one
side while panting>)  it does sound like you had a better'n good pt session
though.  so the question is, has it helped your back feel any better
already, that you've noticed?

i had a pt therapist once (tom, i think his name was), for my shoulder, who
made me feel better--- probably just because bernini or michelangelo
wouldn't have hesitated to model their marble sculptures after him.  as for
my shoulder, neah, it's still frequently contrary---but there's something
magical to me about my perceiving unintentional art, no matter how or where
i find it or in what form.   (i figure, if i can still see, admire and
appreciate beauty, in any of its forms, then i'm closer to alive than dead
and that's a good sign.)

egads.  think i'll stop now, before i get myself into trouble!

Mike did tell I would probably be a bit sore from the twisting of my leg to
determine just how out of whack I was. I had to work after my session, too.
He was right, I was a bit more sore than I would have been, but I will keep
up the exercises he showed me and see how things go with my 2nd and 3rd
appts. this week.

I also appreciate art and beauty where I find it.:o)  Mike is a cutie-pie,
not really my type, though. We chatted about kids, school, work, etc. I
think he'll be very pleasant to work with for the next couple of weeks, and
I won't hesitate to recommend him to my friends.
