i feel very out of touch with asa. the book i just mailed off today (26
days late!) was so hard for me to finish. i feel like i'm coming up
from a dark tunnel. i don't know why i had such a hard time with it. i
don't think i've had more than 5 hrs sleep/night in the last two
months.

anyhow, enough griping! i need an update on how people are doing,
especially dee tee and her tummy and jo firey and her ear.

we just returned from NC where we bought a house! negotiations were
completed tonight after 2 days of back and forth and we close july 1,
but the current owners will rent back until august 1. now john and i
have to sell our houses, and after reading duckie's account of her
house-selling problems (the only thread i've taken the time to follow
this week), i'm nervous.

i have to tell you about this house! i don't want to show a pic because
of privacy reasons, but it is a 1988 contemporary and is  completely
ACCESSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (i will have to have a gimp fest there some
day!) i don't need that at the moment, but with future foot surgeries a
certainty, it will be wonderful. lots of studio space for john's
photography and writing space for me. a sunroom and screened porch on a
wooded acre. lots of really bad wallpaper and carpeting to remove, but
otherwise, a gem.

so much to do, tho. duckie and other movers, how are you faring?

Good for the book.
Good for the house.
I would be really nervous to buy before selling but you
are in the DC area so selling should be no problem.
We are in a holding pattern. Had two buyers in this
week which is a record. First time it was shown more
than once in 5 weeks. The minister changed his mind --
not enough parking space for their fleet of cars. So we
wait again for the right person to fall in love.
Told John a couple of days ago that I am too old and
tired to learn to be this neat. It is killing me. rofl
Dusting once a week is more than I have done in 20
years and this week I dusted three times. And the maple
tree outside the front door is dropping its spring
'nose-sticker - helicopter' things and they are being
tracked in all over the house. I am not amused.
The new house sounds perfect. How many square feet did
you wind up with? [DeeTee - there is that preposition
again]
How is your organizer working out?
Duckie [who keeps discovering things she wishes she had
not packed yet...]

oh, duckie, i really feel for you!. if my house doesn't sell the week
the dogs and i are out of town in late june when it will be in pristine
(well, at least, good) condition, i will be in trouble because the dogs
mess everything up. the stress must be so hard for you.

yes, it's unnerving to buy before selling, but in this market, i think
it will be ok, and we couldn't let that house get away.

since i've been traveling/working, haven't gotten to start packing yet.
the storage pod arrives on wednesday and we start moving clutter that
morning.

keep yur chin up, duckie.

maybe it's time to give up and pay someone to do it!  My mom says she has the
time now to do her own housework, but she worked hard for years so she could
pay someone else to do it!  I hate dusting too, but the dust allergies keep
me somewhat honest about it.  The living room shelves are getting really bad
right now, but I keep wearing out my hands and wrists on gardening instead of
dusting......  LOL

It sounds like a marvelous house!  I am so happy for you and John.  And
congratulations on getting the book done, and your publishers off your back
again for a while, heehee. House sales vary a lot from area to area and yours
may go quickly.  Man, we do ahve a lot of people moving this summer!

Good news about the book being done and that you got a house. That is great
news. Hoping for a good move for you and that all goes well.

Hickory about a 4 hour drive from Raleigh. I think you will enjoy the NC
weather.  weve had a great spring.  maybe we can get together someday.

cool!  diane, did you write your purchase agreement contingent upon the sale
of your old home?  your new house sounds wonderful!

you've had a ton of stuff pulling at you from all directions,
sweetie---john's health, your own health, and everything involved with
moving, before the actual move, is an enormous distraction.  it's no wonder
you had a difficult time getting this book off to your publisher.

it's uphill from here on out, sweetie.  shall i insist?<smile>

kate,
no contingencies in the contract. i like to live dangerously (not). we
close on july 1, but the first month is no problem, since the sellers
will be renting from us and cover the house payment. then i think we'll
be carrying 2 (or 3, if john's house hasn't sold yet) mortgages for a
week or two before our houses close. of course, our houses aren't even
on the market yet! my helper, mandy (like duckie's helper helene) was
here yesterday. . . and is here right now. got to go answer the door!

i'm not much of a major risk taker, so i used to tell butch,  'there's an
art to living dangerously.  it's called grace under fire and i've never
mastered the artform."  apparently, you have or are at least willing to give
it a shot.<smile>  your new house sounds totally awesome, diane.  sounds
like one house i'd love to see, though i certainly understand the privacy
issues.

privacy issues: i'm so open about my life, but i am cautious about
where i live. my fans are the best, but every once in a while a fanatic
comes along and gives me the willies, so i feel a need to be careful. i
may put some interior shots up on my blog when i get a minute.

Makes real sense to me - you are in such a public profession, you need to
take care in some ways.
