Netscape 8 has been released. It is a browser only with webmail access
and no newsgroup access. No non-English, Unix or MAC versions to date.
If you want to give it a shot go here:
http://ftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape8/english/8.0/windows/win32/
and get the 'nsb-install-8-0.exe' file. It's big, 13.2 MB.
Here is Mozilla's take on it.

I use Netscape to read the newsgroup [via the german
server]. Does that mean 8 would not allow access at
all? Of course I am reading on the Mac so the point is
mute. Is this an aol and netscape move to elimiate
newsgroups from the world or am I just being paranoid.
Maybe it is just a lazy - let's not bother with that
software - better known as cost effective move.

And for you early adopters, the current version is 8.0.1. If you
downloaded it as soon as it came out, you probably got the 8.0 version.
The 8.01 was released a day later because they messed up the release and
didn't include some patches. So, check and make sure your version is 8.0.1.
For those of you that want a complete package (mail, news, and browser)
I suggest moving to Mozilla.

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:

Looks like they blew it there is a problem with IE and netscape on the
same machine.
Microsoft's IEBlog confirms an issue reported on newsgroups and forums
that after installing Netscape 8 the XML rendering capabilities of
Internet Explorer no longer work. Since installing Netscape 8, I've
been affected by this issue too. Unfortunately, the only fix currently
available for IE users is to completely uninstall NS8:
That means that if you navigate in IE to an XML file such as an RSS
feed http://msdn.microsoft.com/xml/rss.xml or an XML file with an XSLT
transformation applied then rather than seeing the data you are
presented with a blank page.
We currently have the following work around for people that are
hitting this issue:
1. Uninstall Netscape 8
2. START->RUN
1. Type: regedit
2. Hit ENTER
3. Navigate to the following:
4. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftInternet
ExplorerPluginsExtension
5. Highlight and right-click the node titled "xml" and select delete.
6. Restart Internet Explorer
Unfortunately if Netscape 8 remains installed then the registry key is
continually rewritten so this is an essential step if you are to be
able to view XML content in IE.
ZDNet - This issue could be another blow to Netscape, which released
Netscape 8 only two weeks ago. Just a day after launching Netscape 8
and touting the browser's security features, the company released an
update to fix several serious flaws.
