Mobic vs Voltaren?

I really have fibromyalgia with, as far as I know, only mild arthritis
in my neck and feet.

I am posting here because this is a question about medications which I
know are used for arthritis as well as fibromyalgia.

Since Vioxx was removed, I've been taking Mobic 7.5mg and then 15mg.  My
overall level of pain and tendon problems has been steadily increasing.

My rheumy gave me Voltaren, 25mg 2x/day for 10 days to see if it would
break the cycle.  He told me I should not stay on this drug because it
is too strong.  He said take it for 10 days and then go back to Mobic.

Since I started the Voltaren several days ago, my pain is reduced by
about 50% and back to a manageable level.  I feel like every day I'm on
it, I feel a little better than I did the day before.

Needless to say, I don't want to go off the Voltaren and back onto
Mobic.

Is it true that Voltaren is a more powerful and therefore more risky
drug for long term use?

TIA

Louise, I don't know about either drug because I've never been on them, but
wanted you to know your post had been seen.  Someone will be along soon to
answer your questions.

Hugs, DeeTee

Louise,
Voltaren is a very effective NSAID for RA. I think it is one of the best...
but it is very aggressive for your stomach. I have had a serious stomach
ulcer from taking Voltaren. Now my homedoc give me omeprazole 20 mg (=
prilosec) to protect my stomach. Don't take Voltaren  for a long time
without stomach-protection ! You can buy Voltaren as a suppository and that
is less aggressive for the GI tract.

Louise,

I can't help with the Voltaren question but Mobic didn't do a thing for me
either and I was on it for about a year.

I'm sure someone can help with the other question.  Good luck!!

Volteren is a NSAID so it can be hard on your stomach- like advil, aleve,
etc.  It's not so volatile you shouldn't use it.

Since it's working so well, why not take Arthrotec?
It's volteren and cytotec.  the cytotec protects your stomach.

If it's working, there's no way in he$l, my dr would take me off it.  It's
like he wants to tease you with pain relief.... here's how it feels and then
too bad so sad.  Ugh

I have taken Voltaran for years.  75 mg 2x a day.  I have had no problems
and it does help my pain somewhat.  I also take a pain med with it
hope this helps you
I know everyone handles things different.

Louise,

I've been on Arthrotec and could not take it.  It upset my stomach.  It
did help though.

I have been on Mobic for about two years now with good results.  Isn't
it amazing how we react so individually to the meds.

The arthrotec might be the way to go for you.  Be sure and tell your
doc how much this has helped you.
