CT scan results...a shock to say the least

My Internist called today with results of the Friday (13th) CT scan. I
have what appears to be a lymphoma in my back close to the heart.  He
has made all of the arrangements for me to be admitted to hospital
tomorrow. A room has been reserved and is waiting for me to to do all
the admissions stuff when I get there.

He has immediately changed my pain meds to oxicodone (sp. I have taken
two around 7:15 PM and is now 8:45PM and this is the first time in three
months I have felt that at least some of the pain has subsided.

Of greatest concern for the moment is if it has attached to the bones in
my spine.  A biopsy is already set up along with other tests.  This is
one sharp Doc in my opinion.

KU Med has 14 teams which rotate through the day and you assigned a team
the minute you complete all the admissions stuff.

So we wish for the best for here on out.

Hi Skip,

Thanks for your concern.

"It is my personal opinion that having lots of pain in one location
hinders the body from noticing minor pain in another. Maybe that is why
you didn't notice the UTI.", said Duckie.  She was right one about the
UTI pain and apparently much much more.

My Internist had me admitted to the hospital on Monday after he read the
CT scan.  He has determined that the spot on the x-ray is actually a
mass which showed more clearly on the CT scan. When I went to admitting
at the hospital He had already set up a team to start investigating the
whole scenario. A lot of Docs asking questions and checking me over from
about four different disciplines.  On Tuesday they scheduled me for an
early morning biopsy on the mass in my back.  They took three samples
for the pathology lab.

It will be sometime this next week before the results are available. No
reason too keep me in the hospital so I was released later that day.
The fastest way to get insurance approvals for the test and review by
some many  Docs in short period of time.  My  Internist opinion before
the results is a Lymphoma.  They have taken me off of calcium and
Methotrexate.  A very  rigid schedule for pain relief.  Oxicontin 40 MG
2  tabs every 24 hours, Oxicodone 5 mg every two to four hours and
three Flexeril every 24 hours.  My wife, Jeanne set up a chart of dosing
schedules for each one.  It allows me a way to monitor my pains along
with the medications.

As soon as the pathology reports are in he will call me and has already
set an appointment for me on June 3rd to discuss the results and chart a
course of action.

Hi Don, that's a lot of doctors to deal all at once but it sounds like your
Internist is very organized and on top on things.  Post when you can, don't
worry about it if you're not up to it.  I'll still be sending positive
thoughts.

prayers coming your way, don. my brother just had a schwannoma removed
from his chest. it was pressing against his esophagus and heart. they
feared it was also growing into the spine, but it wasn't. he had
complications related to other conditions, but he is now doing just
great. i wish the same good outcome for you.
