It is very interesting. The reporter, being a reporter, did get the
cause of MDS wrong, though. The cause is genetic abnormalities
developing in marrow precursor cells that are then passed on down the
chain of cell differentiation. These abnormalities can cause blood cells
not to be produced correctly, and affect one or more cell lines. As
these abnormal precursor cells continue to replicate, remaining normal
cells often reduce in number. The disease has different stages, and
while not classed as a malignancy there is a strong push for it to be
classed as such because it can develop into a type of leukaemia (CMML)
in many cases. For more information, you can visit the Aplastic Anaemia
and Myelodysplastic Syndrome International Foundation website:

http://www.aamds.org/

I am at particular risk for this disease: patients with aplastic
anaemia, a different type of bone marrow failure syndrome, can develop
myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) if they live long enough. the exact
mechanism of the evolution of the disease is unknown but is thought to
be from genetic damage over the course of years of autoimmune attack.

Cheers,

Ari

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:

You forget that many people here have more than one problem.   How do you
think I felt when I was told that I have TB????   I know exactly how you
feel and I meet each day feeling that way but I do my best to not give into
it.   Language,,, Anger,,, only hurts the people around us we care about.
It is the old deal where a person comes home from work and kicks the dog who
we know will forgive us even as it is being done.    Soo kick away Ari......

((((((Ari)))))))  I am so sorry to hear this.  I just hope and pray that it
turns out you are not "completely screwed".  (and as others said, under the
circumstances, the language is more than understandable)
