Well, I got a call today. Good thing too as I was
getting ready to write the newspaper and tv and another
letter....
It was Shaw's General Manager - like head of the head.
First thing he said to me was 'your letter - pause -
swallow - it really touched me'. It was said quietly
and with genuine feeling. 2 points for me. He
apologized all over the place. Told me he had written
letters to all his store managers to have each machine
checked at least once a day to be sure it is working,
to be sure the tires are not flat, to be sure it is
charging properly... He also said - it had come to his
attention that they needed to be regularly cleaned [as
in not dirty] as well so he has given that order too.
Wonder who wrote that letter. hehehe
He again said that my letter had really touched him. [I
let my daughter read it later today and it made her
cry. Didn't mean to do that but I had told her it was
not an angry letter but a sad one. Guess I did a good job.]
Then he said, the store manager told me he had called
you. No I said. He didn't call. Well, he says, he told
me that he had called and apologized and told you the
machine was fixed. No I said - he is lying through his
teeth. I picked up my drugs several days ago and I
needed groceries but didn't buy them there because I
didn't want to risk finding the machine not working.
hummm - says the manager. You would think he would have
not done that as I told him I was calling you. Well, I
would like to see that next conversation you have with
him I said.
He said he didn't want to take up any more of my time
but then said that if I come to the store and I am not
feeling well enough to shop, they will take the grocery
list and shop for me.
I thanked him for that and I thanked him for calling.
Now if I could just be a fly on the wall in the other
lower manager's office. Wonder who he thought he called
- some other angry customer? Or did he just lie flat
out to his supervisor.

Way to go, Duckie!!!!! YOU ROCK!!!! And I'd love to be a fly on the
wall with you (or if not, take a small video camera with you so we can
all see :-))) If I were you, I'd go in tomorrow with a LONG grocery
list and hand it to the manager and tell him to shop for you :-)))

No need Duckie.... You did the job and we could all learn from how you
handled this.... You see,,,,,,, the truth of it is,,,, he understood that
it makes him look bad for store procedures that are not getting the job
done. Just buying the personnel carriers is not enough.
