Dose #3 Rituxan

Duckie - 09 May 2005 20:47 GMT Well, I have had dose #3. The other lady is doing really well. She has left her fatigue behind. She said it lifted Saturday morning. She also says she is pretty much pain free. I have more pain today than last week, just under being nauseous from it. And my fatigue was at a 10. I got relief from stiffness for 6 days and by Sunday the pain had returned so by this morning I was a mess. This is working but just not as well as I had hoped. It is really working well for the other lady. Nurses keep telling me to wait. I have this dose [which is now in me] and one left to go. Guess there is a reason they give 4 doses. My guess is that I will not be one of the ones having it last for 15 months. I am just hoping it will get me more than a week. Think I am getting a bit depressed. Too tired and in pain to keep going at the moment but I will turn this corner. I always do. Duckie

Melissa - 09 May 2005 22:55 GMT I'm sorry this isn't turning out to be your magic bullet. I hope maybe you just need that one more dose.
Hang in there, Duckie.

i wish it would work better for you. i'm guessing i'd have the same response, since you and i seem to do about the same with drugs. i know you're too tired to answer this now, but i don't understand the 4 dose thing. do you have 4 and then wait for more, or are 4 doses supposed to last you the 15 months? answer when you feel up to it. {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{duckie}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Susanne - 10 May 2005 02:02 GMT What is this drug? Is it like remicade? How is it given and how often? I have been happy with remicade but it doesn't help with my energy. Is this one supposed to help with this?
Susanne
> oh crumb bun, duckie, > [quoted text clipped - 7 lines] > > diane Duckie - 10 May 2005 02:25 GMT It is new. It is an infusion given once a week for 4 weeks and then not again for 9+ MONTHS. It has been in trials for RA but is already approved for use in non Hodgkin's lymphoma treatment. No I am not in a trial. My doctor is giving it with the other medication you are on in hopes of busting the drugs you are presently taking. He has had good luck with EVERYONE who has tried it before me. I still have hopes but my body is fighting back big time. Maybe all the pain I am getting is like the body's reaction to antibiotic therapy - once last hurrah before giving in to the drug therapy. I don't know. People who were in the trials have raved about it. It was all they took and it latest them anywhere between 9 - 15 months. Today's infusion actually went faster. I think we were out of there in 4 hours instead of the previous 5 or 5+. Duckie

d'huit - 10 May 2005 07:43 GMT (((((((((((((((((duckie))))))))))))))))) i know things like this can sometimes be discouraging, but i'm sooo proud of you for having the courage to hang in there, to see it through. that's not easy because some of these procedures are just plain time consuming and unpleasant; and there's always that teeny bit of doubt in the back of our minds about whether something will work/help or not. but, i'm hoping your strength of character will be rewarded by a cumulative positive effect from this entire series of infusions. i just don't see you as being the odd duck out, in the results of these infusions. na-uh, duckie, you have too many moma ducks wanting to hover over you, to fan you with their soothing wings and to help you ride the rough wakes, for that to happen. we're all pulling for you and we're all in it together with you, sweetie. just hop aboard this moma duck's back, when you are weary, and let me paddle for you for awhile.
how does that nusery song go--
you're a little white duck swimming in the water; a little white duck doing what she oughta. she took a bite of a lilly pad swallowed it up and she said, "i'm glad!"
here's to you saying, "i'm glad!" when the series is overwith and the cumulative positive results are finally present enough in your body to make you glad that you went through this. that's my wish and my prayer for you, and i'm sticking to it!

This made me cry -- cause you are so sweet and I so need to let someone else do the paddling. Woke up this morning moaning. Every joint is on fire. Called the RD's office and they have an alert out for him for tomorrow as he is not there today. Asked if I had pain meds in the house in the meantime. Took my Ultram this morning and it lowered the screaming but I have just fixed myself my mother's cramp busting concoction which has no warning on the bottle for 'every so many hours'. Jack Daniel's, Triple Sec, Rum and OJ. Drink until your nose is numb - repeat. Had a facial a while ago and just ordered some clothes from Land's End so feeling better. hehehe Duckie

feel better soon, sweetie. i don't want you to hurt anymore. (((((((((duckie)))))))) you are in my thoughts and prayers, hon.

Ice into glass and splash as much oj into as possible [not much will fit]. And just for clarification, I bought the clothes and had the facial BEFORE the concoction. But it did cut the pain and I got to sleep. Duckie

Ice into > glass and splash as much oj into as possible [not much [quoted text clipped - 3 lines] > the pain and I got to sleep. > Duckie I'm hanging on to that recipe. I may need it if my Enbrel shot doesn't kick in soon. I only went back on my Enbrel after the illnesses last week and I was late getting it this week. My pharmacy called in 2 orders for it - one on Friday (last week) and one on Monday. Their supplier decided it was a duplicate and only sent one batch. They called and gave them what for, but couldn't get the second batch until Friday morning - late. We left early Friday morn to help with the spring cleanup of the kitchen at our church camp. (the kitchen has to be clean before the general cleaning volunteers arrive next week - so they can feed them!) We scrubbed counters and shelves and washed and dried and dried and dried dishes. My hands and feet ahve been screaming at me ever since. Finallly got my Enbrel today and got going again on getting it built up in my system. sigh............
Duckie, I really understand how you can be flaring so much with all you've been doing. Just one day of spring cleaning, actually only 6 hours of it, did me in. I fell asleep on the loveseat about 9:15 last night and finally woke enough to get to bed about 3 hours later. fitful sleep the rest of the night. How on earth have you at all survived clearing out your house?
would have liked to see what clothes you bought AFTER the pain cocktail!

Gwen Love - 12 May 2005 03:57 GMT Duckie, maybe you are paying for all the work you did cleaning and packing. That was no easy job. Even keeping your big house clean would wear me out. I do hope you get to the doc tomorrow and get relief from all the pain. Gwen

Nann Bell - 12 May 2005 10:53 GMT Oh, I hate it that you are feeling so lousy. My recommendation is a week off at some lovely spa somewhere, with a well-stocked bar and you with a well-stocked med bag. Hope the doctor helps you out more tomorrow (today now, I guess)

Woke [quoted text clipped - 10 lines] > from Land's End so feeling better. hehehe > Duckie Duckie - 10 May 2005 02:20 GMT It is actually 4 doses and then again in 9 months or later if you can go that long. It is not looking good for me. I did make it to my pilates class tonight. Those girls made me laugh so it was worth it. At one point while the advanced group was doing the boxes, I rested. Actually, I fell sound asleep. Woke up to hearing my name being called by the teacher. heh - the little naps are important. It is a good group and I did what I could and rested when I couldn't but the crowd lifted my spirit. All that talk of tricep work - point to where you nipples used to be - just can't help but laugh. Well, I still have one dose to go so not giving up hope yet. And I am still on Remicade and Arava so I am not flying alone. But sure wish something would work. I have been holding out to have my knee injected to just before the Portland Gimpfest but my body is screaming for it now. I am still sitting at 4mg orally and looking longingly at the bottle of 5mgs. I just know that would make me feel better but I can't go through that withdrawal process again. It is just too hard. Any chance of just giving yourself a day off for fun - preferably before this shot wears off. After all the work you've been doing, you've more than earned some pampering.
I hear you on the fatigue and pain front. I'm not quite as bad as you, but I'm still paying for being sick most of last month. Finally back on everything and starting Relafen to replace the Bextra, but still waiting for the combined effects to kick in. And now it's been overcast, warm and humid for the last two days. Bleh. Go pamper youself, then report back to us and make us all feel better imagining it!
