Hello everyone! Has anyone heard of Phototherapy? There's a web site
www.mymedx.org... My Physical Therapist wants to try in on my knees.I
have a parcial tear of the medial colateral ligament of the right
knee, also a 3cm Bakers cyst in both of my knees, and a possible meniscus
tear in left knee.I have RA and tried Plaqenil for 6 months, which didn't
work,I've been on Methotrexate and 10 mg. of Prednisone for almost
4mos.Methotrexate isn't working.Does anyone know if Michigan Medicare
and Medicaid cover drugs like Enbrel,Humira,Remecade, etc.? Any help
would be appreciated,I am so miserable. Thanks! Carol

Talk to your RD about it.   IMO it looks like one of those deals  that want
to separate you from your money.

Reading their website it sounds about as effective as a heating pad and
uses the same mechanism: warming things up. Reading some of the
abstracts (full articles were conspicuously missing, leaving me to
wonder if these things ever made it to peer reviewed journals) it seems
about as effective as ultrasound for certain specific ailments. In terms
of the RA abstract listed, they didn't compare it to anything other than
placebo, which I found abit strange. They should have at least compared
it with ultrasound. The whiplash study included no control group to
account for placebo effects. You can give it a shot if you want, as it
does appear that it MIGHT have some beneficial effects, but I'd be wary:
I've seen nothing to indicate it's superiority to more common treatment
modalities, such as ultrasound.

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:

My last-born son had phototherapy for a blood disorder
(blue baby) he was born with.

From my wife's medical cyclopedic:

phototherapy:  Exposure to sunlight or to ultraviolet light
for therapeutic purposes.  One example is the treatment of
neonatal jaundice, in which the jaundice infant is exposed
to UV to decrease bilirubin levels in the bloodstream thus
reducing the risk of bilirubin deposition in the brain.

It also is used to treat some skin diseases. including
cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and psoriasis, and to relieve
the symptoms of seasonal affective disorder.

photodynamic therapy:  In ophthalmology, the use of laser-
activated photosensitizing drugs to treat a variety of
tumors and nonmalignant conditions such as age-related
macular degeneration.

Those are different from the phototherapy being offeed by the
proprietors of the website listed by the OP.

I strongly suspected they would be.  <g>

It sounded like someone taking an acceptable medical
treatment and using it to line their pockets.  When they
bill insurance/Medicare, I wonder what disease they use
to justify the treatment.
