Hi---
Got my second week of Hylagen injections Friday. The new PA was on a
different schedule now.
This time I got a long-time PA that I have known over the years, so I asked
her some questions.
She numbed the surface of my knees really good, (like last time), with a
cooling spray or whatever it is. Thank goodness. The long-term PA told me
she numbs it extra, when she is doing the knee injections, because they tend
to hurt allot. She's always been the gentle PA with her injections.
I asked----They do not use the synvisc (sp?) injections anymore.
They use the Halaygen (sp) liquid injection directly, no novacaine or
lidocaine, for a 5 week treatment, as they have found better patient results
using that specific injection brand, as compared to 3 week syn-visc brand of
injection schedule.
She showed me the box each syringe comes in, and the medicine itself is
spelled like Halygen (sp?) but with an extra "a" as far as I could see.
The medicine injected is basically the same as the treatment name, but seems
to have an extra "a".
I go to a Pain Therapy Center to a Rhuematologist that I have gone to over 6
or more years and I have a good trust in them. They have always helped me as
best I could be helped, fibro and all.

This time I had my long term PA that did the injection, she said that it is
not an injection of collogen, but is a lubricant injection. She put a drop
of it from the syringe onto the top of my hand, and said for me to rub it,
it feels like thick vegetable oil. It did---

It's Saturday afternoon, I spent yesterday, after the shots, goofing off in
a Lazy Boy, with a big bath towel over my knees. Felt nice and warm. Today
the pain is far less than it was last week ago at this point. Much less!

Best to all--
Ron   :-)

Hi Ron,
What an interesting post!  I'll have to ask about the 5 shot system next
time I have to go in.  I'm all for better results  :-)

That is way kewl that you got to feel a drop of the stuff.  Like thick
vegetable oil?  I have to try that, lol!

I'm very glad that it went better this time.  It should be even easier from
here on!  Have you noticed any improvement/good changes yet?

Ron, My Rhuemys PA is much better at giving shots in the knees than my
Rhuemy..But after I told my rhuemy that, he did a better job...After he saw
how bad I hurt after the first shot...
That is very interesting about the difference in Synvisc and Hylagen...
If it is better, I wish they had done that last year on mine...
I wonder if it would be worth it to redo those injections this year and if
my insurance would be as eager to pay...
I don't know...In July I get Medicare and my insurance, so maybe I will try
again...

Hi--
Just another update.
Since I had my knee shots last Friday, things went really good.
As I posted, a whole lot less pain.
I did have a suprise, on Sunday, it was in the 40's and quite humid. I
discovered I have two more "weather forecasters"--my knees.
Today, Monday, they are much better, as the humidity is way down even though
the temp is still 40.
But, I hope the "weather forecaster" knees will improve as my knees improve.

My sister, down in Texas, goes to senior exercise classes. Each day the
instructor asks what the weather will be, 'cause she knows that allot of
people in her exercise class can forcast the upcoming weather better than
the TV.

Best to all----

we'll take " a whole lot less pain" for you, ron.  that's good news and i'm
glad to hear it.  on the other hand, i'm sorry to have to welcome to the
club you'd rather not be a member of.  i think there's a lot of us "club
members" on asa who should/could be earning a weather forecaster's salary.
