hi pam! welcome to the dog and pony show---oh. wrong ng.<smile> welcome
to our asa family, pam. i hope you decide to stay awhile and learn to steal
chocolate alongside the best chocaholic thieves among us.
in answer to your question, yes. i was diagnosed, in adulthood, with S-form
scoliosis and reverse lordosis of my spine, which are both still
issues---but then, my spine is and has been a mess in a lot of other ways,
too, and for a very long time. my son, on the other hand, when he was
around 8 years old was diagnosed with scoliosis, too---but--- he doesn't
have it anymore, thanks to some dedicated effort on his part and a very good
physical therapist i managed to dig out of the sports medicine field.
because of your medical history, or what i perceive of it so far, i'd highly
recommend discussing the possibility of corrective physical therapy for your
scoliosis with your physician/s first to see if that is a viable option for
you. if your doctor/s are on board with it, then ask your doctor for a
referral to a physical therapist, one who specializes in spinal issues of
this type.
the idea with pt for scoliosis is to strengthen the muscles that are weak on
one side of your spine that allow the already stronger muscles on the other
side of your spine to pull your bone structure alignment out of whack (into
a C or S form/shape of scoliosis). just because my son was 8 years old when
he started that pt treatment program (and was fine by the time he entered
junior high school, incidentally, and still is at 28), does not mean that it
will not also help adults with the same problem.
i think i'd also get that "difficulty breathing" issue checked-out first,
too, pam. i'd like to encourage you not to self-diagnose or assume you know
that a breathing problem is scoliosis related, when it might be something
else, like an easily treatable transient bug or something. don't mess
around with or ignore breathing issues; even a car needs air to work
properly. i don't really know enough about your spinal medical history, so
i don't think i can agree nor disagree that your headaches and balance
issues are related to the scolosis. that needs to be evaluated too, i
think. but your doctor should be able to pick up on that rather quickly,
since s/he can look at your films to see exactly where your scoliosis is and
know how it might be affecting you.
hope that helps a bit.

I just found out last month that I have scoliosis---S's down my spine so I
have weak and strong muscles on both sides. And both sides were really
hurting. The arthrotec has taken care of that pain, even though I can only
take one tablet a day instead of two. I tried taking two again, and had the
same result as the first time. So I am sticking to one a day since it seems
to help, though not quite as well as the two did.

Welcome to the group Pam. Sorry you have to be here.
I also have scoliosis and a lot of other health issues. So I do feel for you
and wish you the best outcome for all of your health problems.
