Back when I was 13, long long ago, we sailed back from
Europe on a ship that was hit by a massive wave on it's
maiden voyage. Knocked a hole in the side that covered
two decks. It was repaired in time for us to sail home.
Can you say nervous. lol The wait staff thought I was
too thin and worked at fattening me up. Dock side in
NY, the customs man felt all my bras in my suitcases
along the underwire looking for ? something. I was
mortified.

Gary I was on a ship fairly close to the ship that experienced the rogue
wave that night. The ocean was really rough.

My sister and I went on a cruise, at my doctor's urging for me to get away
and we usually enjoyed sitting out on our balcony at night, sipping out
banana daquairies and toasting my DDH, but that night the ocean was so rough
that I was scared to sit out there. We even tried to leave our balcony door
open so we could hear the waves as we fell asleep but the rolling of our
ship made the chair propping the door open, move back and forth.
What really shook us up was the thought that of, what if someone had been
sitting out on their balcony in the dark, as we usually did? We wouldn't
have seen a rogue wave and neither would they.

I wonder if that ship knew the wave was coming and if they warned passengers
to not sit outside. If I go on another cruise, this is a question I will be
asking before booking.

We sailed round the world 30 years ago. I am certainly glad that we
never encountered anything like those shown in the photos
