it is a cochlear implant to restore hearing loss, janice.  is that what you

wanted to know?

I've been wondering as well.  She and I are both in a cat group, and no
one has said anything there about it.  I hope all went really well for
her.

Yes madam.

I really don't have a choice.  My ear is ringing and its much worse when I'm
on the computer.  Haven't even been watching TV.

I woke up this afternoon with a bruise around the eye on the side of the
surgery and a sore throat.  Very little pain though.  So that is very good
news.

And Charlie is cooking chicken and homemade noodles.

I could have him on a plane in about an hour.

I got up last night.  Not only were the grandkids here, so were some of
their friends. They do all have home of their own  including the grands.

Then WE were supposed to get them off to school today.  (No I didn't even et
up)

Yesterday afternoon I woke from a nap with a black eye on the side where I
had the surgery.  This morning its swollen shut.  And Charlie can't figure
out what he did with the post-op care papers and phone numbers.

According to my family I am at present a frist class royal beatch.  And I've
earned it!

I am just about perfectly miserable today.  My tongue is swollen enough its
rubbing my teeth.  The pressure from the plastic wound cover is making my
ear hurt.  Ear is swollen inside and itches.  Eye looks awful and itches.
Yesterday was "our" anniversary which DH "celebrated" for both of us by
finishing my bottle of wine, and the one he bought for us and another we had
tucked away for a special occasion.  Grandsons decide to be absolute jerks,
and also to have friends over.  So not only didn't get any dinner, had an
audience when I tried to fix myself something.  And now everyone is mad at
be cause my attitude seems to leave a little somethingto be desired.

My guess it from here things just about have to improve right?  At lease I'm
still on speaking terms with the house painter.  He's nearly done and my
house looks better than it did the day we bought it new thirty five years
ago.

We will put him to work inside in July when it gets to hot to work outside.

whoaaaa!  that's just NOT fair to you!  you just had serious surgery and
that kind of behavior is very inconsiderate.  grrrrrr . . . .   i don't
think you are a "first class b@#$h" at all, jo.  you hurt, are feeling
miserable and are trying to heal.  (((((((((((jo))))))))  you need to have
peaceful healing time.  the "friends" should have been chased out and the
grandsons sent to their friend's house, instead of the reverse.   "helping"
grandma should have been their primary concern.   sounds like convalescent
ground rules set into place before your surgery might have been helpful.
but then, that's hindsight.  i sure hope charlie "notices" what's really
happening and  picks up the ball for you, sweetie, to make things better and
less stressful for you.

This is just long standing family dynamic.  Charlie is sorry and being nice
today.  They all get stressed when I'm not well and "in charge:

I don't think that particular set of friends will be back anytime soon.
Which is fine by me.  Grandson wants to entertain, his mother has a house.

Also I'm being unreasonably difficult.  ANd its intentional.  As my mom used
to say in similar situations  "Don't go away mad, just go away"

I want the freedom to wander around my own home in my underwear and grumble
if I feel like it.  At least for a few more days.

i believe that what stresses family members most, when a big cog in the
family machinery is unable to function in a normal way, is not knowing what
they can do to help and feeling inadequate about not knowing.  it is very
stressful and distressing to feel helpless when you're watching somebody you
love in obvious and unusual amounts of pain.

at this stage of the process, hon, you're certainly entitled to be
unreasonably difficult, because what you are experiencing isn't normal for
you and is difficult to process and to deal with.  and if you need that
freedom to walk around your home in your underwear and even howling at the
moon, you simply need that, and that's ok that you do need that.  that's not
unreasonable, at all.  it is just one way that helps you cope, is all,
especially until you find your balance with this surgery and all it has
imposed on your mind, body and spirit.  i mean, hey, this is real pain, this
is your reality, this is frightening stuff and this is temporary.

And you deserve to do just that!  I guess I'm lucky that Mike deals with such
stress by hovering and being overly-protective of me.  Makes me a little nuts
when it happens, but it beats the heck out of a houseful of teenagers when
one is 3 days post-op!  (LOL and my hysterectomy was when his bipolar was
just starting up - once it was obvious that I'd be just fine, he was so happy
it kicked him into hypomania and THEN he was a real pain!  Esp. as he was
really funny and it hurt to laugh........)

I truly feel for you on the tongue thing - I had a cyst removed from the tip
of my tongue 14 years ago.  Couldn't close my mouth for a week due to the
swelling.  But I only had the tongue to deal with, not the ear and black eye
as well.

Bet you could have made those grandchildren's friends
go home quicker if you had just marched out in your
underwear yesterday. Would serve his selfish little
tushie right. Glad Charlie has perked up.

Jo, it's amazing that you still have a sense of humor.  I can't even imagine
how much you are hurting and how miserable you are.  You just be as b****y
as you want to be, and everybody will just have to live with it!  Surely
hope you soon get all the swelling gone though, so you will be more
comfortable.  Just keep thinking of the good outcome you're going to have.
You're in my prayers.

lol  Yes -- don't p*ss off a good house painter as they
are hard to find. Sometimes family members can be
really dense. That won't get better but this two shall
pass. You've had surgery for heaven's sake.
My hubby is off paddling this weekend -- in the rain. I
have to get the house ready AGAIN, by myself for
another open house. And get the cats into the car by
myself AGAIN. And an agent called tonight and wanted to
bring her clients by 45 minutes after the open house
was over. Would that be okay. NO. Sitting in a car in
the rain with two screaming cats for two hours will be
fun but waiting another hour for some idiot who just
can't make it 45 minutes earlier, I just don't think
so.  She sounded surprised. Told her she could come
with them after the open house but I and my cats would
be here. See, I can be beatchy too. And these days, it
doesn't take much. rofl

The surgeon called again this morning and I was able to report I'm doing
great.

Well as great as I can be when it feels like I've got bugs crawling around
in my ear.  Fortunately it comes and goes.

sounds like things are heading the right direction.  I feel for you with the
bugs in the ears.  I get that when my eustachion tubes get congested and it
can be infuriating.
