tomorrow is my third thoracic injection.  results of the last injection seem
good to me.  less pain makes pain pills work better; had only one incident,
last night, where it seemed my back wanted to spasm but somehow seemed to
change its mind or it was soooo mild when it did, i couldn't tell.LOL

since dr. alex expected me to have questions for him the last time, and i
couldn't think of one, i've been listing them as i think of them all week.
however, i feel like i know i'm not writing down some important questions
and simply cannot think of them.  i could use a nudge in a direction or
two--- any ideas, you guys, about what questions i should be asking him
tomorrow?

i am thinking of asking him if a cervical injection might help my shoulder
pain and neck spasms; about the chin to chest reaction last time; for a copy
of his addendum to the mri report; if the cortisone from the injections
stays localized; what adjunct treatments does he recommend now, because of
these injections; how long one can continue these injections and at what
risks; how many sites are too many?  but my brain is knowing i'm missing
asking something important.

Hi Kate

I get kenolog (cortisone) and novacaine injected into my cervical spine.
Along with that my pain specialist sometimes injects those nodes (lumps) at
the base of my skull.  Not a happy time LOL.  But it seems to work pretty
good.

I was told not to have too many, like 3 times a year, of those cause of the
amount of cortisone they use. EVEN though the pain specialist tells me it
is very tiny and should not matter. Well my rheumy tells me differently.
LOL.  I am on medrol orally already so maybe that was why.  Who knows.

Once the injection area is done it is numb and you feel instant relief,
which lasts anywhere from a couple hours to a couple months or more.
Depends on your body.

I doubt if they are the same injections you are receiving into the thoracic
area though.

Would you be so kind as to write me and explain what those are?   I have
DDD and have had 2 back surgeries, one being the neck fusion so head pain
seems to wonder right there.  But my thoracic region is always tight and
sometimes the area is very painful and spasms bad.  I have used patches for
pain and tens but I am always looking for ways to combat the pain and not
mess with that stuff, If I can.
The cervical injections were done right in his office while I sat up. First
time I almost lost it LOL but now it is nothing. Just makes your eyes water
haha.  I guess that is the anticipation or the needle prick LOL

Let me know how the day went.
thanks

no questions popping into mind here - I've been too much out of touch with my
mind the past couple of weeks anyway - but I've putting in my vote for this
third injection building so effectively on the previous ones that next thing
we know, you'll be out dancing with Duckie!

(Oh, just looked at the day.  You must have had the injection today. Well,
the vote still applies.  I just haven't been in much of a computer mood
today.)

<smiling>  thank you, you guys for your loving thoughts.

i did have the final thoracic injection of the series this afternoon.  i
felt so good afterwards this time that i didn't even lie down when i got
home, though i did take it easy and did take pain pills before the
anesthetic wore off, as per instructions.  yeah!  for feeling good!   here's
hoping the benefits last a lonnnnng time.  but even if they don't, hey, i've
been blest with much welcomed relief, no matter for how long the respite.

i handed dr. alex my two page report about how my body responded to the
prior two injections, including my list of ten questions (cut my list of
questions down, so i wouldn't overwhelm him.LOL).  he actually thanked me
for typing those two pages out, said it was helpful and that he wished his
other patients would write down both the positive and the negative
results/responses to the injections for him.  he answered all my questions
thoroughly and with so much candor, i was kind of surprised by his
unguardedness.  but i do so appreciate that he is able to be candid.  i
learned a lot because of his answers.

he gave me copies of all reports (except for today's procedure which hasn't
been written up yet), the diagnostic/exam/clinical data/procedural
technique/findings/impressions.  interesting reading.  i've learned a lot
from these pages, too.

i'm still mentally and emotionally processing all that i learned, so it's
likely you'll be reading more about it all, as time progresses.

as for my being out dancing with duckie, i could dig that bigtime, once i've
had some lessons.LOL  it's been 34 years since i last could step out on a
dance floor (except for with butch and just rocking in one spot with him,
sweet man that he was).  i don't think i'd remember what to do with my feet
(hmmm . . . and one of those feet doesn't point in the right
direction).<smile>

janers, what kinds of things would you like to know about thoracic
injections?   you can pick my brain all you want to, either here or in
private if you prefer.  just use this e-addy on asa and pull the numbers out
of it.

and nann, you've been battling that weird outer ear infection and a host of
other things.  i can't focus worth beans and mentally stumble/bumble all
over asa when i'm dealing with half as much as you have been.  i trust these
things are lessening in impact on your daily life.   (((((((nann)))))))  you
just take your good time, hon, and feel better soon.  we'll wait for you.

Kate, the third one sounds just wonderful.  Pray the relief will last many
months (or years).
