       STORIES FOR THE WAITING ROOM

It's hard to become famous when you work in people's mouths
all day.  These dentists are celebrated -- or at least best
remembered -- for other pursuits and achievments:

G.W.A. Bonwill perfected the modern safety pin.

William Lowell invented the modern golf tee (probably on
a Wednesday afternoon).

Thomas Welsh originated the grape juice that bears his
name.  He perfected a method of removing by pasturization
the alcohol that nearly all fruit produce naturally while
on the vine.

Doc Holliday gained notoriety shooting it out at the O.K.
Corral.

Paul Revere had a famous ride warning American Revolution-
aries that the British were coming.  (He was a silversmith
by trade, but did dental work on the side.)

Pearl Zane Gray wrote western novels in his spare time. He
dropped his title and first name when the books became
hugely popular.

Firechief-
I really have enjoyed your contributions (odd as some are) to the Arthritis
Newsgroup.  Thanks.  Jan O'
