How come arthritis hurts on bad weather days??

Doctors differ in opinions about this.  My personal opinion is because
of the change in air pressure, which changes the "pressure" within our
bodies, and especially within our joints.

weather (48 hours in advance) in the Fall and Winter.

Rainy weather doesn't seem to affect my joints one way or the other, but
they get quite stiff they get cold. Keeping myself a bit too warm (esp.
at night) seems to help me.

Bonnie-

My old ortho used to tell me there are sensors in a person's joints that
tell you where your body is and they also react to barometric pressure.  He
said that is why a person can close their eyes and still manage to touch
their nose--the sensors.  Jan O'

it's the barametric pressure changes that get to me.  i can tell the day or
two before, when a weather change is coming.  doesn't matter if it is good
or bad weather change.  both have the same effect on me.

same here.  I've always figured the changing air pressure exerts changing
pressure on your body and the parts of your body that are already
irritated/inflamed really feel that change.  Between my inflamed joints and
the previously broken bones and my husband's old rib injury, we make quite
the couple when there's a big weather change underway!  LOL  the way we talk
sometimes, you'd think we're old or something!  LOL, from the eternally

It's funny, but weather changes have a direct impact on the pain of
Fibromyalgia too.  Nanny

The changes in atmospheric pressure - when the
weatherman says the barometer reading is lower
or higher than the day before - affects some people
with some types of arthritis.

Since I was first diagnosed in the 70's, I have never
had a reaction to weather changes - sunny or rain,
snow or desert heat.

... The older I get, the better I used to be.

Either the changes in barometric pressure or the increased viscosity of
the synovial fluid (when the temperature falls, the synovial fluid gets
a bit less viscous, making it harder to move the joints that are further
from the torso).

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:

Looking back to even my teenage years I've had a lot of pain and
stiffness in cold weather. Now this year was very cold here and the
pain got very bad. When I asked my first rheumy why I have pain on cold
days she said it's because of the inflamation. Don't know what that
means.
