Good news, Bad news

Rosemarie Shiver - 08 Apr 2005 18:09 GMT Bad news: Bextra being pulled off the market. Good news: Today I got Mobic samples. Good news: USA Today called wanting to know what I think about the news. Is it a good thing when the media consults you? She'll be calling back again in 2 days.
Bad news: I'm heavier than I've ever been and it's a bit scary. Good news: BP is normal. Good news: Zetia doesn't hurt my muscles and my cholesterol is 200!! Yay! Mixed news?: I'm abnormal yet normal?
Bad news: I could have had RA this whole time...I need a whole new work-up. More bad news: the only RD in town will only give me Pred. which makes me seriously ill. Can't go back 'cuz I can't change her mind. Badder still: My choices are to go 75 miles North one way or 80 miles West one way to get myself an RD. Good news: Looks like one of the RD's will be opening an office not far from Normie's work...only 30 miles one way. Better news still: These docs here will work closely with whomever I see for arthritis.
Bad news: I'll be closing down the blog 'cuz I can't seem to get myself writer unblocked. :-( Good news: I'll be happy to contribute to any other if anyone asks. Better news: I'm here with ya'all. <g>
Dunno if that's more good than bad but it feels like it is.

Even a little good news, properly cherished and nourished overshadows far more than its weight in bad news,
If you are weighing good news vs bad, its your choice which scale to put your thumb on.
Hugs back.

Can't go back 'cuz I can't change her mind. > Badder still: My choices are to go 75 miles North one way or 80 miles West > one way to get myself an RD. Well, is there a "decent" PCP who can follow RA? Since we are limited with RDs here, many PCPs will take care of RA patients, so long as they see an RD at least once a year (used to be I had to go to Denver 255 miles or Salt Lake City more than 255 but no "mountains" to go over to see an RD, and I never went because I couldn't handle it). Then you'd have a rheumy for the occasional visit, and a PCP for the 'scripts recommended by they RD.

Smokie Darling (Annie) - who believes that you may have answered her one question, but need more coffee (the whole pot wasn't enough <snerk>)
Rosemarie Shiver - 08 Apr 2005 21:30 GMT Hmmmmm,
So Annie...yer saying suck it up and do the driving. Got it. LOL Teasing ya! But I hear ya.
I'm a complex situation and they've kinda given up on trying to manage me on their own.....more than a PCP wants to deal with.
Yeah, living out in rural areas sure limits the choices! I've not had any Medicare HMO since leaving Miami and that makes it harder. Luckily hubby's PPO just kicked in and the PCP sez use it on a new RD....'cuz I'm complex. LOL

I knew I had worded it poorly, I should have just cancelled it rather than post.
> I'm a complex situation and they've kinda given up on trying to manage > me on their own.....more than a PCP wants to deal with. Well, see, if you get an RD that agrees to physical visits twice a year and notes to your primary (and progress notes back to them from the PCP), then you don't have to suffer and you don't have to see the Pred Pusher.

Get a copy of Dr. Phil's book. DO all the exercises in it...do not skip them thinking that they are not important. They are. I started his weight loss challenge in mid January and I'm down 33 pounds. If you do it for no other reason, do it for your heart. Take it from one who is finding out what living with heart disease is like. I got mine from a virus not my weight, but I know that now that my heart is permanently damaged, this weight can't be helping it any as it has to work harder to get the blood throughout my body. Less body=Less work for it.
> Good news: BP is normal. This is good :-) For some reason, even though I was always overweight my B/P was always good.

Rosemarie Shiver - 08 Apr 2005 21:26 GMT Heya, Carole,
Oh noooooo! LOL Dr. Phil is bad for many, if not most, Fibromites. Mayo Clinic sez I can swim and have sex. The pain management doc added I can stretch and saunter. And that's it. It's gotta be mostly diet because I'm hypermobile and have shifty spine. The major injury of Dr. Phil's style ain't worth it for me. Neither is buying the book, for me.
I am wishing ya the best on SSDI...I was a teacher/professor b4 I became disabled and I got the SSDI on the first try with a lawyer. That was in 1991 so that trells ya how long I've been this way. Hang in there...it'll happen 4 U. Honestly, when yer done, yer done. I'm well done. LOL

I wasn't talking about the exercises as in physical exercises. There are written exercises in the book that help you deal with why you eat. They are the ones that have helped me immensely. I always knew that I was eating to fill voids in my life, but once I starting writing out the questions and answers I really took a look at why I was overeating and was made more aware of those things. It really helped as when I was diagnosed with CHF, I didn't run out and binge. And now if I feel the need to have some chocolate, I just buy a small bar and not the BIG bars I used to buy. I guess I'm learning portion control. Due to my condition, I have to stick to a very strict low sodium no caffeine diet, and doing Dr Phil's questions has helped me in that area as well :)
I am going to ask my therapist if I can start swimming. There is a pool near me that has discounted rates for disabled people and since my doctor has declared me 100% disabled, I guess I qualify :)

A really good exercise is ironin, doncha know. LOL It kinda puts the starch back into yez.
Or is it that you have to stay away from ironin? Come to think of it, I think that is it.
Yes, stay away from ironin' and you will feel much better.

Well, Rosie, dear, sounds like you got quite the mixed bag of goods and bads there, but I'd say more good than bad! For that I am happy for you!!!
Sure hope the mobic will work well for you and that you won't even miss the bextra. Also really glad to hear that you have found a cholesterol med that works for you too. Yay!!!
If you end up having to drive so far for an RD, do you know of anyone that you can visit or get together for lunch or something in the area where the RD is located? At least that would make the long drive seem not so bad if you can make the trip worth more than just the drive to the RD. I drive about 45-50 miles for my lung doctor, but I also take the time on those trips to visit with some of my family and friends that are out in that area, which makes the longer trip all the more worth it to me.
As far as the extra weight goes, summer is coming and all those fresh veggies and fruits usually make it easier to take off a few pounds. Also the warmer weather is nicer for long walks and such. Maybe you and Normie can go for some long walks together!!!
Hugs to you dear lady and hope things keep going well for you!!! Keep up the good work!

Good news: you live where winter driving is not a concern (hey! I drove home 85 miles in a snowstorm after thumb injections! Ok, ok, in all honesty the lidocaine he used in the injections made driving home easier than driving there, but it was snow fairly heavily for part of the drive.)
Better news: you get to where driving 30 miles to your RD is not a big deal as long as you have automatic transmission and it's pretty much country roads. (still wouldn't care to drive 30 miles in metro Boston!) And in such areas the RDs get used to doing this a bit different as you can't just "drop by".
