Anything out there nore durable than stockinetts for a splint?

Stockinettes dont last long,,,,and wearing a foot sock on your hand may
be awkward

I wndered if the material (stockinette) would be a medical expense
covered by Medicaid--so that I can get a box of it once a month?

Could you use an ace bandage?   At least ace bandages can be washed and
used over and over again.   You could always call medicaid to see if
they would cover somethng like that!

Can't wrap arm without help if using ace bandage--plus that could cut
circulation--tried gauze too--and removed it minutes later--blue
coloring of hand.

Wish sonething more dureable than stokinette that can be slipped on like
sleeve--where I won't need assistance to put on.

I have Cerebral Palsy.

Bonnie, when I wore splints on my wrists for carpal tunnel syndrome, I
made a slip-on lining for them by cutting the toe off men's white
cotton tube socks. I also had to cut a hole for my thumb to go through
because the splints went from my knuckles to my forearms. This was
cheap to do, so I could make several of them and have spares ready
when they got dirty. They washed and dried very well and lasted
forever.

Maybe this would work for you.

Back to lurking now--Pat McC.

Well your sock-inette idea wasn't too bad.....

I cut two long men's tube socks toes off, and cut a snip out for the
thumb.

I''m wearing  it now--don't look too bad

The sock-inette is a little warm though--but comfortable

Pat--

I was told they are not covered unless you have a sore or ulcer on the
skin

$24 for 20 meters (a box) of it.

one place sells it for 50 cents a FOOT--another $1 a foot

Shop around........Bonnie

Look for tubigrip,

It is made somewhat like stockinette but has a bit of elastic through
it so may offer too much tension.

The other thing is- get some tube socks- the kind without the heel.
Cut off the toe end. You should then be able to slip it on.

Ok--

Will check into tube grip

If  I tried tube sock I'd  have someone seam the openings --so not to
unravel, which is the problem with stoickinette

Bonnie:
I'm no help on this but it just reminded me of the time I was trying to pull
on a wrist splint and tried using pliers--which slipped and split my lip and
nearly knocked my teeth out.  Good luck.  Jan O'
