Back from Death Valley, the flowers were made quite a display, nodding
and waving in the wind. There were many people in the Valley this
year I guess everyone heard the news about the flower display. I took
loads of pictures, so many I have to edit them down.
When I returned Oregon it was raining! Yeah about time. I just
needed to go down and fetch our weather.
My tacoma truck kicked butt when we did some off road adventures. We
went up Goler wash and visited the notorious Barker ranch (Charlie
Manson's hangout he was arrested there). We also followed the escape
route (now a 4 wheel drive road) of the Jayhawker party (1849) I
really admire their fortitude in coming out of death valley and the
panamint range. Loads of snow in the Sierra but Ca 395 was clear.

Awe it was fun, though lots of driving there and back! We hiked all
over, so I am in pretty good shape now! The flowers were amazing, fun
to watch adults act like kids when they look at flowers. -- MZ

Very cool let me know how much I owe! Before our river trips we
sometimes make a river tunes CD. Maybe I will make one to get you in
the mood! I have a whole collection of river tunes. -- MZ

Did you see any butterflies?
Mary and I were in the low desert of SoCal today, and
there were millions of them. Cars were being re-painted
yellow by those critters comitting suicide.
They circled and dive-bombed us when we walked.

Big yup on that question! My windshield was smeared with them....
big yellow globs. We went through butterfly "storms". Amazing how
many there were. My truck is in serious need of a bath! -- MZ

I can't wait to see your photos...I've been wishing I could go to Death
Valley for the last couple of weeks.

Well, that's nice and all, but did you have to bring the wind, too?! The
tulips just bloomed and now they're getting whipped around like crazy. It's
like trying to make up for 2 months without rain in one week.

We just got back from Death Valley a few minutes ago. Wonderful trip. Even
if we did drive thru a near blizzard in Donner Pass this morning.
Quite a crowd in Death Valley wasn't there? At least in the few areas where
people congregate. THe traffic, parking and congestion in those areas could
have certainly been improved by about a dozen port-a-potties.

It was busy! I always forget how big the landscape is in Death
Valley; it is huge. What an incredibly beautiful stark place, but
the flowers were great. We were mostly in the back country with our
4x4s. Yikes those blizzards along 395 and Donner summit can be very
exciting a real adventure, I always need decompression time after
driving in one of those storms.
Here in Oregon we have rain finally! The forecast this week is rain,
rain showers, showers, rain showers and rain! High winds on the coast.
Yippee maybe we will have a boating season after all. My poor dahlias
were starting to break through the soil, hope it is not too cold for
them. Our trees are leafing out.... very early spring, the rhodies
have started to bloom at my office. -- MZ
