I heard on the news last sunday that a 15-year old kid was hit by a
train in Bayport. How horrible. When I found out his name, I cried.
He's the son of someone who I have worked with rather closely on
planning projects during the past 13 years. It's always a terrible
thing, but this time, it's just too close.
Yesterday, was the wake, but I was too sick to go. This is awful.
Apparently, he was with friends, and decided that he could duck under
the crossing gate and beat the train. He was wrong, and was killed
instantly. It amazes me how kids view themselves as infallible and
immortal. It's amazing that anyone survives the teenage years.
This is so sad.

Condolances and loving hugs to both you and your friend.
It is probably this view of being immortal (and invulnerable) which
allows children to have impossible dreams. Some of them even come true.
