Hi, just wondering if you can offer any assistance.

About 4 weeks ago I started getting joint pain, it started virtually
overnight with shoulders and knees.  Over that period it has spread to
all joints but varies in where the most pain is although the elbows
tend to suffer most.  It's worst by far when I wake up, and seems to
reduce once I get up and about for the day.  Although exercise one day
seems to make the following morning twice as painful.  The pain can
also manifest itself with a painful audible clicking in some joints.

I've seen the doctor a few times who believe's it's Post Viral
Arthritis although I had never heard of it and don't recall suffering
from a particularly severe virus.

Any thoughts ?

Yes, it could be.   Please get the OK to see a Rheumatologist and find out
for sure.   The time you waste could cost you in what inflam.arth. does to a
person if you have that.

Piggy back here. My mac just crashed -- OS X is so
stable that rarely happens. I was in a middle of a note
when I finally had to just shut the machine off.
Anyway, what I was saying before I was so rudely bumped
was that John's first trouble came about two weeks
after a bout with the flu. They finally said it might
be Reiters. I think Jen was 4 or 5 at the time. Go to
http://www.arthritis.co.za/  and click on the arthritis
index page button, then click on disease index. There
are others which fit but it will give you an overview.
Have you seen a RD [rheumatologist] yet?

My RA first reared it's ugly head after a bad flu.  It may have been
lingering and some undefined symptoms like sore feet and neck pain
simply went undiagnosed as RA because it was mild.

My original diagnosis was "reactive peri-arthritis".  In my case an
infection in my knee caused my immune system to essentially get stuck
in the "on" position. If I don't have anything else going on, my immune
system attacks my tendons and ligaments.  A virus or any other illness
that triggers the immune system could result in a similar situation.
Get to a rheumatologist... auto-immune arthritis isn't anything to
ignore.

Dear ?

Yes, it is possible to get a post viral form of arthritis, but like the
others have suggested, you really do need to get a referral to a
rheumatologist to get the correct diagnoses and treatment plan for
whatever it is you are dealing with.   The sooner you can do this, the
better it will be for you.

Sure hope you get to feeling better real soon!

Ok thanks for the advice all, I'll follow it and let you know how it
pans out.  I probably should have added that I'm only 30, but it
doesn't sound like age has any bearing on this !

Babies can get arthritis -- it has nothing to do with
age. It is completely non discriminatory when it comes
to who can get it and who does not. Not that we don't
occasionally wish that some people who shall remain
nameless [if the spam fits...] actually come down with
what we have or all of what we have. 170+ forms of the
disease.
Oh, welcome to our sandbox. And hide your chocolate.

Checking back in, after 5-6 weeks it got a lot worse, the pain extended
throughout the entire day and to all joints.  Doctor was struggling to
work out a cause (Rheumatoid Factor was negative).  Did some digging of
my own on the internet and purely by chance discovered that there were
a handful of reported cases of a condition called Drug Induced Lupus
being triggered by Minocycline, which ironically also seems to be a
drug used to combat arthritis !  Having been on Minocycline for several
years it seemed to be worth a shot, however unlikely.  3 days after
coming off it the morning pain disappeared over night and 9 days on
I've had continual improvement across the board to almost no pain now.
There's lingering occasional pain in the wrists and elbows but
otherwise all is back to normal. Fingers crossed that's the end of it
and I'm one of the fortunate ones.
