Finally... I get my surgery to remove the hardware from my ankle.  It has
caused me grief for nearly a year, and that is all going to end :-)

Now, if I can just get all those sick people to stay away from me between
now and then...

Epidural or general? My CSF started leaking out of my lower back after
the epidural and I ended up back in hospital a day or two after I had
the metalware removed from my ankle. The general for my appendectomy was
beautiful, I wasn't sick and was pretty well 'with it' in just a few hours.

Cheers,

Ari

General.  I actually asked about epidural, because I am a weenie and always
wonder if I'll wake up after a general.  Apparently the spinal fusion I had
prevents them from attempting an epidural.  It sounds like this surgeon
doesn't like to use them anyway.

I was a little disappointed, but after reading your email I'm thinking this
is probably the right route to take.

A good anesthetist is a godsend. I've had good, bad, and mediocre, and
the difference is amazing. By the way, when the screws and plate were
removed from my ankle because they were cutting a tendon that had been
ripped free during the attack (before we knew about the avascular
necrosis in the talus). After the surgery and before my brain sank down
into the foramen magnum I was up and walking on the leg pretty much
immediately after the extra sedatives wore off (the epidural wasn't done
quite right and there were some really unpleasant sensations of pressure
and skin crawling despite me not being able to feel anything so they
gave me more sedatives to make me stop grimacing and shaking my head).
Good luck, but odds are you won't need it and you'll be back posting
here shortly afterwards.

you're going to be soooo relieved after getting the hardware removed and
having all the problems it has caused you stop.  i know i was (different
hardware in different places).  general is the way to go, sweetie.  the new
general anesthetics are super, janet, no "hangovers" from them.  general
anesthesia has come a long way.  will light a candle for you and keep you
and your OR doctors in my prayerful thoughts and sending healing vibes.
wishing you a great outcome!

Well stay out of your family doctors office.  Those people are allllll sick
and don't go anywhere on an airplane.  It just one with the flu on those
things and everyone will be sick.

Thanks, everyone, for your thoughts and prayers.  I feel much less nervous
knowing that you're all there... of course, I'm not sure how I'll react to
NO COFFEE in the morning. LOL.

Be back soon,

All done.  Piece of cake <g>.

Except for my veins hiding, everything went smoothly.  All the itching has
already stopped now that the metal is gone.  It feels no worse than it did
this morning... I even declined pain killers.

Yay!

LOL... he deserves to.  This guy is great.

But I will take it easy... I haven't found any footware to wear over the
bandage so I can drive to work yet.

Thanks to everyone for your support.  I could feel the good vibes and
thought about you all just before I went in.

Yay indeed!!!  Isn't it amazing how much pain we put up
with that when it is gone, even if it means surgery, we
are so much better off.
Rest, you deserve it.
