I returned from Arizona it was a hectic trip with lots of work helping
my mother pack.  That women is a amazing she is 78 and managed to pack
much of the household by herself!  We packed the garage.   Everything
arrived safely in Albuquerque, which is good because she has some
incredible antiques that have been in our family for over 100 years.
Now I am madly packing for Death Valley, the mojave desert was
incredible with flowers everywhere.  No doubt where the Oregon rain
went!

For you google fans they now have a map feature that is incredibly
easy to use.  just type in the address (street and zip code or street
city and state) and up pops the map you can drag the map around to see
the neighboring streets.  It is much easier than mapquest or yahoo.
You can even search for the closest chinese restaurant or pizza place.

You web masters might enjoy the google flavored web search.  It is a
customized search of your website based on a profile you create.

Once again - we know where you get it from!  Glad to hear stage one of our
month went well.  Have loads of fun in Death Valley and take lots of
pictures.  We were hearing about all the wildflowers bursting forth last
night and I'm ready to see them!

All the deserts are radiant with colors....and temperatures at
Death Valley are in the 90's already (but a place in Texas hit
99 over the weekend).

Mary wants to visit Anza-Borrego, but this weekend we'll be in
Bakersfield and the week after is Easter.  If we don't make it
the weekend of April 2-3, I'm afraid we may not make it at all
this year.

Should Easter Weekend still be good?  I've been sounding Charlie out on a
road trip.  One without the kids.

The next 3 - 4 weeks (mid-April) should be excellent
flora-wise -- if the temperatures remain pleasant.

Hey, I have a husband who stops and asks for directions even when we know
where we're going!  He just likes to make sure.  (this is when we have
directions or know from the map - he doesn't ask for directions to places
we've been to before and truly know where we're going)

And all of us in my family read maps.  Heck, I was a good map reader by the
age of 10.  We're look at maps and make up trips just for the heck of it.  We
compare endless alternate routes, mileage and scenery wise.  Mike and I have
state maps in each car AND in the house, we have detailed county road maps,
snowmobile & ski trail maps & the state Gazetteer as well as our national
atlas.  Then there's the big box of other city, state, national &
international maps in the basement.  Heh, and one of our good friends has the
Gazetteer for every state he drives in frequently.

Not hardly.  And he has lost his "sense" of direction as he's gotten older.
But he will plan out a trip and then when we get into LA or somewhere like
that he will let me navigate.  He drives, I tell him what lane he needs to
be in, where to turn etc.   And he is understanding if I make a mistake.
We make a really good team in the car.

One reason I try to keep the sun in my field of vision when we're
driving surface streets daytime.  It also helps to know in which
direction the address numbering system runs.

I do the planning, but Mary drives and I tell her where to go.

We are doing more of that.  He can still drive OK but I don't passenger so
well.  He keeps forgetting he is not driving a beer truck and the other
drivers are not impressed by what we do drive.  So since I do not rest while
he drives anyway, I do more of the driving when we are together.

ROFL!  that's always a good idea when driving in Massachusetts!  They figure
that if you have any business being on a road, you must know the name of it
so why both with foolish things like road signs?  Especially when we got
driving around out in the country, we had to navigate by the sun at times
until we finally reached a place where they'd slipped and left up a road sign
- or where there was actually a live person we could tag for directions.
