I just wanted to share some thoughts with you all... the Canadians here will
know all about this, as will many others.
Tomorrow (Thursday) there will be a memorial service here for the four RCMP
officers who were brutally gunned down in the line of duty. There will be a
parade, followed by a service at 1 pm. Thousands of police officers from
across North America have come to offer their condolences and support.
I'm not sure how long the service will be, but there will be a minute of
silence near the end. Since I cannot attend, I will be closing my office
door at 3 pm MST (my best guess), lighting a candle and saying a prayer for
the families left behind, and for those everywhere who risk their lives
daily for us. If any of you would like to join me, I'm sure our thoughts
and prayers joined with those of so many others will be felt and
appreciated.

I hadn't heard of this happening Janet. How tragic. Is there a website I can
look at?

I will.
We flew our flag at half-mast yesterday and it was difficult to
explain to my class what it was all about. I can not understand why
this gunman was loose when he had so many allegations of sexual abuse
of minor boys and brutality against others.
I won't be able to light a candle at that time, but will do it in my
heart. I will light a candle later in the day when i am home.

It's the justice system, Rose, it makes no sense. They put Martha Stewart in
jail and let a madman roam the streets. Bleeding heart judges or just plain
stupidity? It is sad.

will participate in the noon memorial. you're right, joan, it doesn't make
any sense and is horribly tragic how violent criminals can roam the streets
while a lie about a crime that didn't happen and borne of fear and
intimidation lands a person in prison.

I haven't been listening to the news the last couple of days and I hadn't
heard about it. For the person asking for a link to the story, here's one:
http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2005/03/03/rcmpalert050303.html
This is such a tragedy anywhere and it's just so hard to believe it happened
in Canada, which sees so little gun violence. All who loved htese men are in
my thoughts and I feel for the country as a whole.

Sadly, it doesn't matter what country, Nann. Bad things happen everywhere. One
of the officers was married in November! His wife made a statement on TV. Bad
stuff. Policemen everywhere put their lives on the line every day.

It was a moving service, Ron. After I watched it I received a message saying one
of our long time and loved members of the MS group died today. It's a sad day.

I jsut got home so was not able to see it, They will probably have
excerpts on the news.
Sorry to hear about your additional bad news Joan.
It is difficult when someone from a group passes away.

The news here actually had very good coverage. We tried to listen to the
service on local radio, but as one of the girls in the office said... it is
hard to work when you are crying. We did observe a minute of silence
throughout the workplace, though.
I heard today that one of the men had only been on the force for 17 days.
They were all so young.

i watched it late last night. what an emotionally moving (for me) and
awesomely beautiful memorial ceremony. it did honor those 4 men and their
families (and the fiance of one of them) in so many ways and on so many
levels. i don't know if this kind of tribute is traditional or not, but it
was certainly done with great care and caring. i felt priviledged to
witness it on television.

Joan, can you email me and let me know about this? Our mutual friend here

I heard that today and all I could think was more tears for more families. So
much sadness when there could be so much good.

I got home from work late today, so just heard about it on the late night
news. How horrible. It seems like one thing after another lately.
I will be including the family and friends of the Atlanta shooting victims
in my prayers as well.
