to give this update and hoping I don't jinx myself!  LOL!!!

Actually, I should be yelling at the top of my lungs...........

Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

Finally, finally, finally, I have cleared the nasty ear infections and
can hear normally again!    Hope I don't ever get anything like that
again!

Also, saw my lung doctor today and after the bronchoscopy and all the
biopsies and stuff they tested for, my final diagnosis is that I just
had a really nasty case of double pneumonia.    There was nothing in the
cultures and biopsies that indicated I ever had whooping cough or any of
the other nasty stuff he was looking for.   He figures the pneumonia was
probably viral and because it was so wide spread in both lungs, that is
what set me up for all the coughing along with my already bad
bronchospastic lung disease.   Thankfully there was no signs of any
worsening of the pulmonary fibrosis stuff!   What ever showed up on the
chest x-rays looking so odd, probably was the double pneumonia all
along.  YAY!!!  I am so happy to have most of this behind me and be left
with just a bit of a nagging cough still.

RD said I can go back on my Enbrel and my Imuran, but not the mtx.   He
wants to give my lungs a bit of a rest from the mtx.  We are going to
try Arava again, although I am a bit skeptical, as I was sooooooo sick
on the Arava before.   He is going to put me at 10 mg instead of the 20
mg.   If I don't do well with it and get really sick with it again, then
I will stop it and the RD will have to decide at that point whether to
restart the mtx or continue to hold the mtx and wait to put me in the
study for the abatacept when he does that study.   Only thing with that
is that I will have to either get a pic line places or a port placed.
Anyone no much about what is involved with placing a port?

Other than hurting big time from being off all the RA meds for a month
and a half, I am doing better.   Fianally think I am on the upswing from
all of this nonsense that started way back on january 2nd.   Have asked
my PCP about going to physical therapy for just a little while to try
and strengthen my legs after these last several months of huge doses of
prednisone, being sick and not moving around much, and from being in so
much pain and such, my legs feel like jello.   I will do a few weeks of
PT to start strenghtening them and then will get back to my swimming and
hopefully going back to the gym on a more regular basis!

So, thanks, my friends for listening to all my whining, for all the
support and prayers, and for just walking through all of this these last
few months with me!!!   You guys are the best!!!

Love you all and continually pray for you all!!!

Hugs!

All positive stuff which proves that good things happen to good people......
sometimes.
The good thing is that we can pray for them all and not have to tell them
and watch the power go to work  and then there is,,,, oooops must not be
Gods plan for now.

(whispering)  HOW WONDERFUL!  Ooops, I just couldn't control myself, I had to
shout!

I hope the PT is a big help in getting you back in fighting form quickly.  I
had really good therapists on my last go-round and I'm more sold on PT now.

Can they vaccinate you for whooping cough so you don't get it in the future?

Nann,

My PCP's office just called and he has approved for me to go to PT.
They are going to mail me the script.   I always go to the same place
for PT and always ask for the same person as she really works with you
to get the desired outcome while still keeping in mind that we have to
mindful of the RA and the lung stuff at times.    She is good and I
trust her a great deal.   I hope she never leaves!!!

BTW, thanks sooooo much for the beautiful card and note you sent.   That
meant so much to me!

Hugs to you and Mike!

(((((((((((((((happy dance!!!!))))))))))))))))  shusssssh . . . ok, then,
(((((((((((((((((happy wiggle in my seat)))))))))))))))))))<yaaaayyyyy>

this is the best news coming from your neck of the woods in a lonnnnng
while.  i'm totally delighted to hear/read that things are going better for
you, sweetness.  keep doing whatever you're doing, donnag!

re:  i.v. port -- butch had one implanted.  it was the size of a button,
just under the skin on the underside of his upper arm.  it was a very quick,
painless and easy procedure for him.  the port didn't give him any trouble
nor discomfort and made life so much easier for him.  because he had to be
limited to very little fluid intake (i've tried to and successfully have
forgotten some details, like just how little fluid), that made sticking him
for i.v.'s sometimes a tedious and ocassionally, a painful ordeal.  he could
shower with it and he was glad he consented to have the port.

it is important that you learn the correct way for a nurse (tech or
whomever) to access your port.   honestly,  a few nurses don't know the
correct procedure or forget how to do it properly, possibly because these
few don't see a lot of them.  that way you can stop anyone who doesn't know
what they are doing and you will know who that is immediately, because you
know the procedure.  the sterile port access procedure is a simple one, but
important to follow to prevent infections and other possible complications,
all of which are avoidable.  hope that helps.

Wow, thanks Kate for all that info on the port.   That really helps me a
lot.   I like the fact that it is put under your skin so hopefully less
chance for infection than say the pic line which more open to infection
I would think.   Anyways, will be discussing this more with my RD in a
couple of weeks again when I see him.

Hugs to you!

donna, it is so good to have you back and in good spirits. you had us
worried. i sorta know how you feel but isn't it a little goofy when we
are happy that all we had was double pneumonia and even consider
ourselves lucky at that.>g< Hope those lungs keep clearing up.
