I'm trying to find someone--hopefuly a few people--who are familiar
with the Ontario Disability Support Program...what financial support it
offers for an individual, what degree of disbility it requires, and
what budget constraints it expects those living on ODSP to comply with.
I saw on a website that the macimum ODSP benefit is $930/month. I
also saw somewhere on a government website that ODSP offers a one-time
relocation supplement payment (to help you move to a new place). These
two bits of informaiton together are causing me to wonder if ODSP has a
very low cap on what a perosn on ODSP can be paying in monthly rent. I
live in Toronto, with a reasonable rent of $800 inclusive. Does ODSP
expect people receiving ODSP benefits to live some place that has even
lower rent?
Also, I'm wondering if anyone knows what disability support program the
federal governemnt offers, how the program typically interprets
disability, and what the federal program offers as a monthly support
benefit, and can both federal and provincial disability support
payments be received?
Thanks,
K

If you have a Rheumy affiliated with a teaching hospital, the social worker
affiliated with their clinic can sort all that out with you.
The program is unwieldy and changes so often it is difficult to keep up
with.

On www.arthritis.ca you will find the phone numbers and 1800 numbers for
Ontario and other provinces in Canada. They should be able to offer you
some help and phone numbers from there. The other page is
http://www.disabilityweblinks.ca/pls/dwl/dl.link?p_p=ON&p_t=FS&p_next=0
That has the Ontario links for disability (several pages)
Also search for human resources canada pension plan - disability.
Good luck.
