Small chat today with my RD after my Remicade and he
suggested trying to add this. It is four infusions, one
week apart which should hold for about 9 months. It is
in addition to all else I am stuffing in my body.
Anyone here tried it?

Duckie :)
Cindy Plume is in a trial right now for Ocrelizumab, which is a sister
drug to rituximab. It's been very exciting!!
She's done the two infusions and has already woken up with no
stiffness. If you wanna read about it - holler at me and I'll send you
the links where you can read about it over on rheumorweb.
Hugs,

Interesting.

That is what he said. Said he didn't want to take from
me just in case and with this we could just add. The 15
page brochure [read printed xerox copies] he handed me
are straight off the doctor's manual and too deep for a
benedryl challanged mind. I will have to re-read
tomorrow when I can focus a bit better.

I have not tried it but I know for cancer doses it has a high
potential for infusion reactions. Cancer patients receive it in
hospital due to the reactions. Some of the RA studies had patients
taking high doses of steroids before the rituxan infusion. You might
also ask about that. -- MZ

Boy, Duckie, after reading what Mary Z posted, I think I would be
checking to make sure that the addition of the rituxan wouldn't mess
with your remicade and make it easier for you to react to both the
rituxan and the remicade. That would be a concern for me. May want
to check into it thoroughly before going ahead with it all. Good luck
with whatever decision you make!

The two medications attack different cells and this
doctor is using it on others with good results. Just
kind of nervous. Especially over the bronchospam stuff.
Got enough trouble with breathing issues. I think this
will be a group doctor chat decision. I think they will
all need to be in on the decision -- that will make me
more comfortable about it.
Besides, I am on so many medications that I want all on
board to question the wisdom.

Is he using both remicade and rituxan as part of a formal study? I was just
wondering if there is anything published yet on the results of the combo.
You are wise to be cautious about the highly increased risk of infection.

I don't think it is part of any study. The papers I
have in front of me look like the papers a doctor would
receive at a conference. All detailed and technical.
Apparently this drug has been used for cancer with
lymphoma patients which is interesting as Remicade has
been shown to produce lymphoma in some populations
after continued use.
What he said was that he had been using it in several
cases with success and he wanted me to consider it.
Yesterday when I was at the drug store, I gave my
pharmacist of 20 years the name of the drug and told
him I was also on Remicade [neither he would know about
since he doesn't fill them. Asked him if it would have
any problems with all the rest I am on. He said he had
never heard of it as it doesn't come across his counter
but give him three days and he would research it. That
makes me feel better as this guy is good and it gives
me a different look on the subject.
The good news is that I trust my RD. Actually have
given his name to several others on this group and they
love him too. So, I will continue to gather facts.
I will keep everyone posted on what I decide.

Papers look like there will be 50mg of benedryl added
to the iv before the rituxan. That and you take
tylenol. With that much benedryl, I will need to be
driven to and from. 25mg puts me out for two hours and
still leaves me foggy. 50 will put me in a coma. lol
They were using the clinical names and I had to look it
all up. They also said that if there is a reaction,
that once the reaction settled the drip could resume at
a lower infusion rate. So we will see. Papers sounded
like I need to take my inhaler with me.
Can't make up my mind to do this before or after
Oregon. I am thinking after but I will call and see. I
have blood test scheduled next week. That trip to ER
three weeks ago showed lower white blood cell count and
he was worried over that.

How are your veins?
I just wondered hgow the extra infusions would affect that or if you
would need some other form of delivery.

Actually, as long as they use the small needle, my
veins are better than they used to be. I really work at
drinking a ton of water the day before and more the day
of. It has helped. And then so has the weight lifting.
They plump right up.
