Subject: Painful Hands.....

My Doctor told me that a possible "injury" that appears (on recent hand
x-rays) to have happened some time ago on my left hand.

I do have osteoarthritis in both hands......

He wants me to have a cat scan on my hand (s) to see whats up since my
hands continue flare up.

"Possible injuries" are odd things.  I remember getting my foot x-rayed due
to a broken bone and the doc looked at the image and asked about my broken
toe as it hadn't been set properly.  I didn't even know I'd broken it.  At
least I found out why it sometimes itches like crazy. (g)  Since then I've
broken several toes and I have no idea how I could have missed the first
one - hurts like ****.

Hopefully the CAT scan will solve things and hopefully it won't be as
interesting as my xray, lol.

It turns out that I have--at one point---injured my hand, breaking a
bone in it (wasn't aware of the break).  The bone is dying and i have to
see an orthopedic surgeon next week.

Oh my,   that could happen to any of us.  Does it mean that one of your
fingers will no longer work right?   Please keep us informed on all the ins
and outs....

Oy.  I hope the surgeon can help you.  I know nothing about dying bones, but
it doesn't sound good.

Hmmmmmm...............this sounds like some sort of AVN or something
similar.  Wonder if Ari or Diane W would know about this?

Have you had a bone broken (that had to be removed and replaced by
plastic---etc???

What is the surgery like?

Never had surgery on my hands before

orthopedic doctor appointment result:

It turned out that I did break my wrist (not my hand)--BUT--he said that
I'd have to have it fused if surgery was done--(won't need surgery for
about 20 years...unless anything worse happens)

I nixed that fusion idea.....

But I will have to get a supportive device made in  OT for use when I
lift  heavy things with my left wrist,  after that  no further
occupational therapy is needed.

Doctor isn't sure if it is the arthritis or the broken bone break that
is causing the pain in my left  hand
