I recently purchased a 12" powerbook and it's my first mac. I love it to
death, but I can't find a standalone news-reader that I like for ASA. I know
there are some mac users here... What do you use?

I use MTNewsWatcher. You can set up different personalities (sigs and
such-like) for different newsgroups very easily. It's free, and the only
one I've tried. I know *of* a bunch of others that have good followings,
such as Hogwasher, MacSOUP, and perhaps some others.
Welcome to the dark side!

Netscape Ashley. I am using it right now. The disk is
right here next to me. I must have paid for this?? but
have no memory of it. It can be downloaded for free off
the internet
http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers/default.jsp
Once it is downloaded and working, do a Apple-2 and it
will open the mail portion. You will have to set it's
options for your email name and the like.
I love it's spell check the very best. You hit send and
if you have marked check spelling before send, it will
stop on each word it doesn't know. You can ignore,
replace, or add to dictionary if you are sure. My
dictionary now has things like RD, RA, ophthalmology,....
And I love Safari for the web

You might want to take a look at Thoth, Halime or Unison as well.
Thoth and Unison are shareware (they have a free trial period), but the
last time I looked Halime was still free. I'm currently using Unison.

A followup to my own post... it looks like Halime is no longer being
developed- the last update was about 2 years ago (I know I haven't
really looked at it in over a year). Too bad- it had some nice features.
