I am allergic to airborne thistle.  I took 4+ years of allergy shots
for multiple airborne allergies, have very few allergy symptoms now.  I
would like to take milk thistle for my liver (enzymes still elevated
even though I stopped Arava 6+ weeks ago.  Now have stopped mtx too).
Has anyone with thistle allergy taken milk thistle?  I am willing to
try it and see but still a bit unsure.

Thank you
Angela

Hmmmmmmm...................Angela, I think I would be doing some
checking with my doctors before going ahead with the milk thistle,
especially given your allergy history.    Would hate to see you cause
more problems than good for yourself.

Best of luck to you and let us know how you make out with the decision.

I had a major reaction to a purple thistle I picked
while walking home once as a child. I also take milk
thistle as an adult with no problems. I think this is
something that only your body can judge. I did have
trouble once with one brand but the heartburn was due
to the 'other' ingredients and not the milk thistle itself.
If it were me, I would take it for one day and wait a
week to see if something happened. Then maybe bump up
the dose. With infants you introduce one new food a
week and wait before introducing another just to be
sure the child has no reaction to the new one.
Allergic to thistle as an adult -- I am guessing you
will have some issues with this. You might try to see
if the airborne thistle is in anyway similar to milk
thistle.??  Guess I am not helping.

angela, i think i'd suggest calling your allergist and ask the "expert" this
question.  it could well be that you were desensitized and there is no
problem.   milk thistle is a wonderful adjunct to stablize liver enzymes.
however, it can't hurt to ask your ent.  if you don't have an ent/allergist
anymore, then call your primary care provider.  it would make me a little
more than a little nervous, if my history were like yours.  make the call,
so that you don't have to feel unsure.
