d'huit - 15 Feb 2005 22:50 GMT epidural will be done friday at 8 a.m. have to be there at 7:30 a.m. for sedation beforehand. (i guess the doctors in this state like to do these procedures before anyone gets a chance to wake up fully.LOL) i can drive to the procedure, but will have to take a cab home and let my son pick up my car when he gets home from work. the place is within 3 miles of where i live--was there for my sinus cat scan, actually, and didn't know it, but they still had me in their computer for that. (i now remember that radiologist/doctor---very kind man, if he's the same one.) their office will be calling me for the 15 minute pre-epidural consult appmt. time for wednesday or thursday and for the pre-procedure info.
i was once again told, by a different person, that this dr. alex is very gentle and empathetic with patients who have to undergo needle procedures---good, and if he's the one i remember, he was very considerate and compassionate. she said the procedure does involve some degree of pain, so dr. alex prefers to sedate his patients and not just use a local. i misunderstood the other gal to say he only used lidocaine---the lidocaine is for the site injection. interesting, local and general both used at the same time. that's even better, cuz i'm getting to be such a total wuss about these things. and that means i get to sleep all day friday! doesn't it? if it does, yaaaaay! i'm soooo ready for some real sleep.
hmmm . . . guess i better dig up a local cab company phone number and put that in my wallet. that is, unless one of you wants to hop on a plane?<wondering---can fingers on a keyboard be wistful?>
kate (relax---wiggle your toes, katie, wiggle your toes.)
d'huit - 15 Feb 2005 23:34 GMT i called them back, just a couple of minutes ago, to make sure they received the faxed mri report, in addition to dr. mary's order. since i knew from the prior phone call that they still had me on the computer, i asked her to check to see which radiologist did my sinus cat scan before that surgery. it WAS dr. alex. i am soooooo comfortable knowing he's going to be doing epidural. he really IS very kind and compassionate. so, i told them i won't need the special consult to get comfortable with the doctor, afterall. heck, i already know him and am comfortable with him. they're going to have somebody call me tomorrow or the next day anyhow, with the pre-procedure protocols. whew! what a relief!

So glad you already know the dotor and will not be worried about that. And as you say, sleep is good. Enjoy it. Wish I were able to catch a plane and be there for you; would love to drive you to the doctor and home. Gwen

(i guess the doctors in this state like to do these > procedures before anyone gets a chance to wake up fully.LOL) I concur on that one! I have to be at the hospital on Thursday at 6am for the procedure at 7:30am. I am praying that I can sleep through it! They said I'd be in lala land, I just hope so. I don't know if they'll allow me to have it, but I'm taking my walkman so I can listen to music and drown out whatever is going on as I don't want to know.
> hmmm . . . guess i better dig up a local cab company phone number and put > that in my wallet. that is, unless one of you wants to hop on a > plane? <wondering---can fingers on a keyboard be wistful?> I'm doing the same. They said I wouldn't be allowed to drive home because of the drugs they'll be giving me. One of my friends will drive me back to the hospital after dinner Thursday night so I can get my car. If I'm not feeling up to it, she said her hubby would come and he could drive my car back home.
Hugs, Carole :)

Not going to bother you now unless you think you will be bored at home. I always think I am going to do so much while laid up and then don't feel like doing anything so I will just wait. :) Duckie

As for the website, let me see what happens on Thursday as everything is up in the air at this point. I feel ok, and I've been doing a bit of reading while I'm home, but I get tired really fast. I'm hoping the meds he gave me will start doing something and make me feel better.

d'huit - 16 Feb 2005 07:06 GMT ((((((((((((((((carole))))))))))))))))) boy, i missed a lot during the construction around here. had to do some searching to find out what procedure you were undergoing on thurs. morning and how you've been doing with that bronchitis problem. you are certainly in my prayers and being sent healing vibes, sweetie. btw, you will be in lalaland, hon and won't care about your walkman, because you will be sedated and will sleep through the entire procedure, as you hoped you would--and you can request that, to make sure they know you want that. and you won't be up for getting your car that night, because they will want you to take it very easy for at least 24 hours afterwards, no driving---so just enjoy being the "queen of lazzzz" (meaning, lazy lounging) during that time.<smile> sweet that your friend's hubby will get your car for you. that's perfect! wishing you a perfect procedure with the best possible outcome, carole.

I called the cab company today and it's approx $15 from the hospital to my house, so I'm thinking of taking the cab both ways. There has been black ice up here the last couple of days and I don't know that I want to drive in that at 5:30am as I will be nervous enough. So I'm trying to decide what to do.

I just called and ordered the cab for 5:30 so I'll be there by 6am for sure. I have to tell you that I was fine yesterday, but today I'm a mess. I woke up nervous and I'm wiggling my toes but it's not helping. I do have to do a few errands today...have to run to the bank to get some cashola for the cab and I have to get a few things in here as I'm sure I won't want to go shopping for the next couple of days.

Just read that to yourself and stop being nervous. The discomfort you will have Friday will be worth it for good sleeping and a loss of pain. Be strong, my dear, and get the help you need. Love you. Gwen

I really didn't like how you were being pushed around. This doctor and his staff seem kind and compassionate. That'll make everything easier. I'm glad you're being sedated. Versed, an amnesiac, is often used, along with a pain med like fentanyl to keep you comfortable. This type of light sedation wears off quickly afterwards, which is why it's often used for these procedures. I'm also very happy that the procedure's being done under x-ray (fluoroscope). It's a lot safer. This doc seems like he's right on top of things and truly cares about his patients' well-being. That's just what you need. I'm so glad you waited until you found him. I'll be right there with you...holding your hand and sending up prayers that you will FINALLY get some relief from this awful pain and a whole bunch of good nights' sleep : ) -- Hugs, Patty Hoping your hills are never too steep.

Can't hop on a plane as I have too many appointments this week, but I promise to keep my prayers and thoughts on you. Let's see, with the time difference you should be done before I walk into my dentist's office Friday so I'll expect you to be home and sleeping happily by then. :)
(heehee, they tried to schedule my neck PT before the dentist to no avail, so I get to go to PT with a numbed up mouth. Should be interesting. At least they are next door to each other and I can take a little nap on the traction table before driving home.)

Harvey R. Stone - 16 Feb 2005 13:12 GMT > thanks, harv. i hope you are faring much better these days. > > kate Hi Kate, You know that the power of prayer goes with you later this week. I am just now starting to pull out of my lung problems. I still cough a great deal but there is a reason for that to get a great deal of fluid out of my lungs. On the good side, I have not gone into a flare and its been almost two weeks without an Enbrel shot. Ya know,,, its going to be a long time before I forget the day I was cleaning up winters leaves and got so out of breath that just sitting down was not enough for things to get back to normal. I think I looked into deaths door that day. It was enough to make me get the proper help. RA lung is serious business and will get the proper respect from me from now on.
I hope you are still in love with your new car and got a good price for the old one. Harv

Skip - 17 Feb 2005 01:36 GMT Makes all the difference having a doc you trust :) Do they really let you take a cab home? That would be great. I have some day surgery awhile back, and they wouldn't let me leave unless I had someone to take me home. Felt bad asking my friends to take time off work just for a car ride. Hopefully you get sedation instead of a general (g). Of course tucking yourself into bed for a day of naps - well, that's my idea of a nice day (bg)
I'd go ith you if I could but I'll just have to settle for sending cyberhugs from the great white north instead :-)
