Apparently her DH managed to download too much stuff to
their ISP and she can only lurk until March 1.
Wonder if they can uninstall the stuff.

Here is her note:
Sorry to ask for a favor, but could you please let the
NG know that I can lurk through Google, but won't be
able to post until March 1st. Doug downloaded a bunch
of technical files from Giganews, not knowing that
their deal with Comcast allows them to limit how much
bandwidth you can use in a month. His files used up our
February allotment. Gotta love him anyway.

Come on adelle get a Google account and post via google you can use
one of the free e-mail services or use a bogus account name.  It is
easy and you can't beat the price. -- MZ

Mary,

I tried to use a fake account name, and Google wouldn't let me sign on
because I couldn't "verify" the account.  So, I just opened another
Yahoo account in a different pet's name.  I don't use the Barnabus
account much (except when Firechief sends his email jokes and stuff).

You can have http://news.individual.net/ the German news-server along
with Giganews. I have both so if I run over my limit on Giganews (which
is now 2 gigs) I can use it. I have Mozilla Thunderbird for my email and
newsreader instead of using OE. You could probably do the same with OE.

Well, the last time I tried to download that (with Agent), my ISP said
they didn't "support" that (it's broadband), and I could never make it
work.  However, I've since gotten a new tower, so will have to try
again.

Am I correct that I should download Mozilla AND Firefox before
downloading Agent and signing up with "German" server?

Doug set me up with my own direct account with giganews. Can satisfy my
compulsion now. (checking in here)

I don't like posting through Google because I couldn't figure out if they
would let my munge the return address (yes, I'm computer illiterate. I can't
do *everything* well! ;-)  )

I have Mozilla and OE running and bounce between the two. I'm just used to
the OE format, buttons, etc and tend to use that out of habit.

I haven't figured out how "munge" an address through Google.  Not to
say it can't be done, but if it can be, it isn't easy to find out how.
Which is why I have the "bogus" account for it.

I also seldom post on Google for that reason.  I started using Mozilla
Thunderbird and Firefox, but still use OE for the newsgroups because I
like that I can completely delete the threads I don't want instead of
just marking them read.
