Pac NW has 2 seasons wet and dry.  This year we  have one season dry.
I was looking at the weather and here is what they are saying for
Oregon.

MOST RECORDING STATIONS AROUND THE AREA
HAD RAINFALL LAST MONTH WHICH RANKED JANUARY 2005 IN THE TOP 10
DRIEST MONTHS ON RECORD. EVEN MORE SERIOUS...THE NOVEMBER
2004-JANUARY 2005 RAINFALL TOTALS AT MOST LOCATIONS REPRESENT LESS
THAN HALF THE NORMAL RAINFALL THAT WOULD BE EXPECTED DURING THIS
PERIOD. IN ADDITION...SNOWPACK IN THE NORTH OREGON AND SOUTH
WASHINGTON CASCADES IS ONLY 19% OF NORMAL AND ONLY COMPARABLE TO THE
MEAGER SNOWPACKS IN THE WINTERS OF 1976-1977 AND 1980-1981.

It will be a big fire year here in the Pac NW.    Doesn't look like it
will turn around anytime soon.  -- MZ

it's been just plain weird weather here for the past few weeks, with rain
and fog and sun and freezes.  yesterday afternoon, we had sleet.  this
morning the ground is hoary with frost, but the sky looks like it should be
about 80 degrees outside.  no wonder my poor bod is confused.LOL

Hi,
I'll add to this. Northern Ill. should be in the dead of winter right now.
One of the two worst months usually. Been in the 30's, 40's, most of the
month. Might be living in the midst of the new San Diego weather without the
ocean! But wait! We do have Lake Michigan! Can't believe how mild the winter
has been so far.

Yesterday afternoon our temperature went up into the 70's, but they tell us
to expect to wake up to 31 degree weather Friday morning!  Boy do I prefer
the 70's!

Boy do I know what you mean!  We've had 4 or 5 major thaws since Christmas.
Last year folks up here were overjoyed in May when the snowpack finally
dropped below 6 inches.  This year we can't keep snow on the ground.  And our
low-lying driveway keeps turning into a pond which becomes a sea of ice when
it does freeze.  sigh.............

Well, it's supposed to stay below freezing now for at least a week and we're
getting a bit of snow.  no telling what March holds though.  The winter
sports industry is really hurting around here.

We're being told the same story because it  HAS  rained,
producing a bumper crop of grasses that will burn when it
all dries out.

Can't win, one way or the other.

The governor declared a drought emergency for Washington today. I love
this sunshine, but we do need some rain here soon. Whoever would have
thought people in Seattle would be saying that??

Wow.  My condolences and prayers for rain.  I well remember going through
this back in '98 in Florida.  People go there for the sunshine, but don't
realize how much it rains.  When it didn't rain at all for 4 months, we had
serious firestorms, even though the drought had been preceeded by excessive
rain and flooding.  Sure hope it starts raining there soon.
