Hey guys!
Sorry for not posting lately. I have been lurking. Saying prayers for those
who need. Celebrating or commiserating where appropriate. It's just the
upper back and neck stuff from the accident limit my time at the computer.
By the time I finish my synagogue business, and stuff for the kids
(Classroom volunteer emails - at least I'm on the receiving end of those,
not sending) my back is to tired and my hands start to numb up.
Saw the RD about 10 days ago. I am still questioning whether this is Lyme
Arthralgia and not RA. He thinks it's more likely to be RA saying, "A
typical presentation of RA is more likely than an atypical presentation of
something more rare." In itself, that is true. But it doesn't explain why
all my initial symptoms were neuro-muscular, and those symptoms are coming
back since I've stopped taking Vioxx.
But anyway, I have added Plaquenil to the list in case he is right. Went to
the Ophthalmologist first to get a baseline exam. So far so good. No side
effects beyond a little indigestion. RD's keeping me on both the Doxycycline
and Relafen to make it easier to figure out if there is a change in how I
feel. He did warn that it would take a while before I might feel any change.
Doug, who never gets sick, has had two different colds this January, each
landing him in bed. And since he's such a good sharer, I got them, too. The
first went away very quickly with the Zicam. With the second, the Zicam
reduced some of the symptoms, but not the length of this stupid thing. Went
to my chest irritating the asthma. The Albuterol has been sufficient. But
this whole asthma thing is so new that I have trouble knowing when it's
acting up. I only get coughing stuff rarely. Most of the time it's chest
achiness with feeling a little lightheaded.
My kids are fine and doing well. But my 22 month old nephew has been putting
my sister through the ringer. He started daycare this year and has been sick
with only a week between bouts since November. And being the very active
inquisitive type, he wound up with a stitches in his scalp in November. His
latest is he used a wooden spoon to pull down a hot cup of tea that my
sister (who has bronchitis and pleurisy, and is working on her MSW,
including an 'in service' two days a week) had specifically put out of
reach. Second degree burns on his arms. They took him to Shriner's Hospital
where he got excellent care, but hasn't been able to go back because every
time he spikes a fever, they ask sis to keep him home so he doesn't infect
the other kids at the clinic. Please pray for strength and calm for my
sister, Michelle (who would not want her last name mentioned because it
could be googled). A prayer to make her husband Alan be more helpful and in
positive ways would be appreciated, too. Nuff said.

{{{{{{{Adelle}}}}}} Dr. D. has John on plaquenil too.
Said he didn't think it was doing any good until he had
to stop it for a reason long since missing from my
brain. Hope it helps you faster than most.
Prayers on the way for all concerned.

My Goodness Adelle,
You have had your share...I am sorry that I don't know the history behind
your asthma...But from living with a group of asthmatics for the past 30
years(husband, daughter,2 granddaughters,2 grandsons)Well I can tell you
that anytime you get a cold...Well you can't just get a cold..Sorry..That
danged old Asthma will pick up everything....
Sending hugs and prayers...Also sounds like your nephew is another
McGyver...Like my 4 year old grandson..If he wants something, he will get
it...There is nothing he can't do...He knows how to do some things that most
Grownups can't figure out.LOL...very dangerous at times...One of the
funniest things is when he called 911 after his mom slipped on one of his
toys and fell with a handfull of Laundry..She has 3 boys ages 4,3,18
months...Well she was walking in from the garage and fell over one of Ryans
toys and having just had it, she sat there and cried Ryan...Help me...out of
sheer desperation and aggravation...
He said...Okay, be right back..I help Mamma...He brought her the phone...He
had called 911...She really had to do some talking to make convince the
emergency people that she was really okay...
One other time, when he was 2...She couldn't find him...She looked
everywhere and was panicking...He had climbed upon top of the Refrigerator
and was just sitting up there watching her while she was going crazy....
Praying for your nephew that he heals quickly and that your Sister makes it
through his teenage years..LOL
Hugs Cindy

hi adele,
good to see you, though not good to hear what you're going through.
plaquenil didn't work for me (not much does), but it's been a godsend
for a friend of mine, so i hope it is for you as well. i feel so bad
that you are struggling with problems from the accident on top of
everything else.
hugs,
diane

Adelle,
Sorry this is a late answer. I found this hiding out in my files.
We know how it is about lurking and posting as you can. So no need to be
sorry about not posting lately.
You seem to be so busy all the time. I wish there was some time for you. You
need your rest too. I don't know how you do all that you do. I don't think I
would be able to raise kids with the way I am now. So I have to tell you how
proud of you I am. You are doing such good work.
I hope you and Doug are over all the illnesses. Yes, asthma is sometimes
confusing. I have had it for years now and still at times don't know it is
the asthma instead of just a cold coming on.
Have had your sister Michelle in my prayers. Prayers for Alan to be more
helpful are coming also. I know it is hard when you have such an active
inquistivie child. So she will remain in my prayers also.
You take care and try to rest up when you can.

You guys I can so identify with the cold/asthma thing. Saw pcp dx'd
sinusitis(which for me usually gets the asthma going) last two nights up at
2:3- ish with tight chest and wheezing. been using salbutamol/atrovent
combination. I have a stand by supply of 7 50mg prednisone tabs. If I'm
wheezing at bedtime or wake up again wheezing think I'll break into them.
