Today was my b-day, and it was one of the most miserable days ever.  Instead
of celebrating, I escorted my furbaby to the rainbow bridge.  I knew it was
a possibility, but had no idea how sick he really was.  I told him we were
going to the doctor so he could feel better... and I know the pain is gone,
but I feel like I lied to him.  I've had several cats in my lifetime, but
have never had to do this before.  Thank God for the wonderful staff at the
veterinary clinic... I don't know how they do it.

I am so sorry Janet:
I had to do that once too and it was awful.
My condolences.

Happy birthday too. You may not feel like celebrating now. But I am
sending my best wishes anyway.

Thanks Rose.  I'll hang on to the good wishes too... maybe in a week or two
I'll sit down with the bottle of champagne I received today, and celebrate
then.

Janet, I have this saved I think to answer.

But wanted to ask if I sent you a card. I have your name on the calendar but
can't recall sending you a card. If I didn't please forgive me. I meant to
send one.

sending one your way. You heard of people sleep walking well I am doing card

Thank you all for your kind thoughts and wishes.  I am thinking a little
more clearly today, and know I did the right thing... but there is a piece
of me missing now and I will just have to get used to that.

Today I thought of what the alternative would have been:  surgeries, chemo,
more pain.  I know he is happier now.  I just wish I could have taken him
for a walk in the park first (he was begging to go).  I hope that he had a
moment or two that were pain free before he took his last breath.  And I
really hope that he loved his life with us as much as we loved having him
with us.

A lady at work today told me that now he could play with her goat, her
guinea pig and her fish.  That made such an amazing mental image that I
laughed out loud.  Can you just picture it?

Hugs,
Janet N.

It's a wonderful picture!  I'm glad you're more at peace with the decision
now.  You'll miss him for a long time but it's better when you know it was
time.

SO sorry! Sending cyberhugs And lots of love.

Keep in mind that what you told your furbaby was not a lie. The doctor did
make him feel considerably better. You did right by your furbaby. What you
did was wise and compassionate.

In the wild, your furbaby would go wander off by itself, stop eating and
drinking to surrender to the inevitable. Just because we are humans doesn't
mean we are wiser to prolong their lives with medical treatment designed
only to keep them in our company longer, at the expense of their comfort and
dignity.

1 - Happy B-Day
2 - Don't you think your fur baby is happier now that he is out of pain and
sickness?  Don't beat yourself up over this one, Janet.  You did the right
thing.

You are the best kind of pet steward. Instead of letting your furbaby die a
slow, painful death, you eased his way to the rainbow bridge.

I'm sorry it had to happen on your birthday, but I really know you did the
right thing.

Hugs,
Kelly C.

Oh Janet, I am so sorry.  I know from experience how very painful that is.  And
you didnt lie to him. He does feel better.

The spot in your heart he occupied will never be filled, but there is room
there for a new furbaby.  Give yourself a little time to mourn him and then get
a new furbaby.  He wouldnt want you to be alone.

Janet,
I'm so so sorry to read about this. I lost my beautiful Westie Henry 9
years ago-he was in such intense pain from bone cancer he would stare
into my eyes and I know he was begging to end the pain so I waited as
long as I could then I took him to the vet-in that way our pets are
lucky that they don't have to endure the pain and suffering we humans
do so you did the best thing possible even if you feel heartbroken over
it, you gave him peace. My guinea pig died a year ago also and I
decided I'd never ever have another pet, then started working for a
rabbit rescue and ended up with a sweet pair of bunnies plus another.
As did my sister-in-law...

Janet, sympathy on the loss of your furbaby; but you were right that he is
feeling better now.  Next week remember this happy birthday wish.

Oh Janet, how awful. We had to say goodbye to our beloved cat last year and
it is so hard. My heart goes out to you.
Make someone take you out to that Chocolate place we went to at West Ed Mall
a few years ago and have something truly decadent. That will be my dessert
so you can be not so naughty when you get your own! LOL

Happy Birthday Kiddo!

Thanks, Susanne.  I just might do that.  I've heard chocolate can make you
feel sooooo much better.

The chocolate would sure taste a lot better if we could both go, but maybe I
can hold that thought until you are up to travelling.

mmmm.... chocolate....

I would enjoy getting together again Janet. Next time my car needs servicing
I will have to drive it down to Edm to the dealer. I'll keep you informed as
to when that is.
Meanwhile, yes chocolate helps and I have the hips to prove it!!! LOL

hugs,

Susanne
