Thumb twitching

I have had help from fellow ASA'ers before, and I'm hoping someone has had
experience with this!   I have basal thumb arthritis, OA in my hands, and neck
OA radiculopathy that radiates to my hands.  Several times this week I had an
electric current sensation in my thumb, and my thumb visibly twitched - 5 to 10
seconds at a time.  Driving, bending my thumb, holding a dinner plate, etc,
would provoke it.  I saw my PCP because I didn't know where to turn - my
rheumy, a neurologist, etc. The PCP had never heard of it, and he thinks it is
a muscle spasm and told me to come back in a month if it worsens (or right away
if I have other neuro symptoms, especially on the same side.)  My other concern
is that I am on Enbrel for PA and worry about MS type symptoms.  I am going to
call my rheumy on Monday.  Anyone else had a twitchy thumb??  Thanks!!

OOooh, I would do that so fast.   My mother in law (RHS) would say something
like,,, your going to handle money,,,, or someone is coming to see you,,,,

Hey Cindy -- I have it often. Tendon problems on my
side. Driving is the worse thing for me. All this
traffic and me clenching the steering wheel. I keep
have that tendon injected but it is not really helping
and I am not going in for any more surgery this year.
I do have thumb braces and wrist braces and sometimes I
wear both. I have found that the thumb brace keeps that
thumb tendon quiet enough to stop the problem in all
but the long distance driving.

Duckie,

Thanks for your response!  Since we have the same rheumatologist, I imagine he
will not be overly concerned (I'm the Cindy who was looking for a rheumy in
Massachusetts and I do see Dr. D).  It did start when I was caught in a traffic
jam last week in the snow - all the slippery driving does have me gripping the
wheel tightly. I lost my thumb brace - it sounds as if it might help to get
another.  What kind of mouse do you have on your computer?  My thumb is acting
up while I move the mouse around.

LOL  Adelle has the same RD too -- I gave her his name
too.
As to mice, I have laptops and tend to use the touch
pad but I do have an optical mouse by logitech which is
cordless. The small antenna plugs into a free USB port.
When I say small, I mean it. It is considered a
traveling mouse for laptops. My hands are so small and
getting smaller each time my hand surgeon drives me
into the operating theater that it just fits my palm
perfectly. Without a cord in my way makes the thing
somehow lighter and easier to move around. Works for
me. The other thing I have learned is to use the mouse
both left and right handed. This works for all but the
most technical work which requires speed. Technical
work which doesn't require speed I can do with either
hand but the dominant one wins when speed is needed.
Got two of them now and both bought at CompUSA
http://tinyurl.com/4266w
although I am sure you can find something similar for
cheaper price. The size was what was important to me.
Some of these mice are so big that my fused left wrist
would never see the desktop for support. So I need the
mouse to be small enough to fit inside my small hand
allowing my hand to rest on the desktop. And my hand
has to rest flat because it is fused that way.
Anyway, what you really need to do is go try as many as
possible.
