I have had a blood test for creatine and it came back slightly elevated. I
urine test now said that the protein level is also high, no infection, my
doctor has the flu and I have an appointment Monday, should I take my mtx
tonight< I don't know and am a little worried, I have never had kidney
problems before and wonder if it is from all the meds
Thanks

Becky,

I would call your rheumatologist or who ever is on call and check with
them.   I, myself, would be far more suspicious of the bextra you are
on.    Nsaids are more likely to cause that type of kidney issues than
the mtx.    If you can't get a hold of a doctor on call, you could
always call the pharmacist and talk with him/her, as they are a good
resource as well.

Donna,
Thank you for the advice I did call the pharmisct, he said that he couldn't
make that decision but that both could cause problems and  that was all.
The doctor I see has an answering machine I left a message but so far no
answer.
thank you again for the response.  Lately it seems as though it is always
something with me and I am just about ready to give up. Thanks again

This is not an emergency Becky.  A slightly elevated creatinine can occur
for many reasons, including a virus, a silent bacterial infection, and many
other possibilities.  Discuss this with your physician on Monday, but don't
let it keep you up at night.

Do monitor your blood pressure though.  If it starts going up, then you will
need to be seen sooner.

Thanks for the info, I don't have high blood pressure to my knowledge. I am
in a lot of pain in the back of both my ribs and in  the morning it is
really painful since you haven't been to the bathroom all night. If I didn't
feel crappy I wouldn't worry, the protein in he urine was more bothersome
than the creatine level.
I don't mean to sound like I am being a whiner, just haven't had this before
and was wondering.
Thank you for your response

The pain you describe adds a lot to the picture as it suggests something
inflammatory in or around the kidneys.  That makes my advice a little
different.  I am going to guess that you might have some kidney stones,
which can produce the protein and the creatinin levels.  But there could be
many other causes as well.

So, if the pain becomes severe, like in causing you to not be able to get up
or move, go to the ER.  If your urine becomes colored with blood or turns
purple, go to the ER.  If there is bruising near the pain, go to the ER.  If
your BP spikes, have someone take you to the ER.

Do not increase your fluid intake and do not try home remedies like
cranberry juice until you have been seen by a doctor.

And finally, please update us when you can.

Thanks Walt,
I have an appointment Monday at 10 with my RA doc, and we will see how it
goes the next day, so far it is okay. The pain is most bothersome in the
morning.
Thank you for all you advice and concern.
Have a good rest of the weekend
