It's a very sad time around here right now.  My wonderful old basset hound
Molly was hit this afternoon by my step-son's schoolbus.  Molly was 14 years
old, blind with cataracts, nearly deaf, and just as sweet and loving as she
could be.  I adopted her as a 9 year old from a basset rescue group just
about 2 weeks before I met my husband.  My goal was to give her a loving
home and a care-free life for her final years.  Earlier this afternoon I
looked and as saw her waddling about with one of her "guide" cats.  She did
seem very happy.  Now she's resting in the little glade out behind the house
where she can bask in the sunshine of spring and fall and snooze in the cool
shade of the trees in the summer.  I will miss her a lot.

Tearfully,

Mary Margaret

I am truly sorry for your loss.  We are home to a deaf, blind ancient toy
poodle, so I know how much they can enjoy what they still have left.  A
basset can experience more with its nose than some of us can with all five
senses.

Our old girl is Sugar.  Our Molly is a youngster calico cat who knows this
little scrap of fur is a dog but can't get it to compute.  Especially as the
older cat can communicate with her and even plays with her on occasion.

It is wonderful that you were able to give Molly so much when she had
already reached a very old age for a hound.  May your memories give you
comfort.

You did your job well. Not many who would have taken a
9 year old dog into their homes. You have a big heart
which is breaking at the moment. :)

(((((((((((Mary Margaret)))))))))))))

you'll miss her but do rest easy in the knowledge that you gave her a good
life for the past 5 years.  It doesn't get much better than that.
