The following is a copy of an on-line conversation I had today with AOL
regarding the ngs. cancellation.  Anne

Hello, Anne. Welcome to Live Technical Support. My name is Rosie.
AChrist787 stated the question or problem as: Inasmuch as AOL has decided to no
longer allow access to newsgroups,
is AOL going to allow us to access a newsreader using AOL, such as Agent?.
Are you signed on with the same computer that you need assistance with?
You say, yes I am
TechLiveREEP says, Anne, Good afternoon :)
You say, but it's not computer assistance I need, it's information regarding
the ability to access newsreaders through AOL
TechLiveREEP says, Thanks for clarifying that.
TechLiveREEP says, Please hold while I find this information.
You say, thank you
TechLiveREEP says, Thank you for waiting. I appreciate your patience.
TechLiveREEP says, Please allow me to explain this to you.
TechLiveREEP says, The AOL Newsgroup service will be discontinued in early
2005.
TechLiveREEP says, Alternatively, you can access Newsgroups via Google at
http://groups.google.com/
You say, yes I am aware that you can do that, however, when doing so you hve to
search for each newsgroup you wish to monitor each and every time you sign on
You say, my question is will aol allow a member to configer a newsreader so
that it can be accessed through AOL?
TechLiveREEP says, My apologies , but currently no.
You say, is there a reason for that? Because IMHO AOL is doing it's members a
huge disservice. I, for one, have been with AOL for years and will be looking
for a new ISP as a result of this You say, and who, specifically, at AOL can we
contact to protest this decision?
TechLiveREEP says, My apologies , but AOL is making certain upgradation so you
need to wait for some time.
You say, how much time?
TechLiveREEP says, Please go to AOL Keyword: Tell Us. You can submit comments
and suggestions at any time. AOL does use this feedback to improve the service.

You say, does anyone actually read it when you sent a message there? Or
respond?
TechLiveREEP says, To see some of the things we've done in response to member
feedback, please go to AOL Keyword: You Speak We Listen.
You say, ok fine, please excuse me if I sound skeptical. I will do that and
will pass this conversation on to one of my newsgroups who are particularly
upset about this situation. I suspect you are going to lose subscribers and I'm
sorry for
that
You say, thanks for your time.

You can configure google groups so that the newsgroups you visiit are
listed on the left side of the window. You can also highlight certain
messages to follow by clicking on the star next the the message. Maybe
not all google is the same?  My Google Grops says Beta under the l and
e.  I've been using google more lately since AOL and Outlook haven't
been having all the messages. Not even the ones I post.  Now if it just
had a spell checker!
