i'm back. a little sore from the needling part of it, which was not fun,
but i'm ok. he definitely was a neurologist. he said i have "just a little
past mild nerve damage, but not quite moderate nerve damage, and not very
mild nerve damage." he made me laugh when he said it that way. i felt like
if i were a cop asked him whether a signal light was yellow or red, he'd say
"kinda orange".LOL
i asked him if he thought surgery was necessary and he said, "if you were my
patient, i wouldn't recommend surgery because of nerve damage at this
point." YAY! "but, it's up to dr. overfield," he also said. so, if dr.
ida is right about my neuro, then he won't recommend surgery either. next
week i should know that for sure.
am i a major a neurotic, or what?!LOL i don't know how you guys put up with
me.
tired and a tad sore-ish from the pokes and from the usual stuff, i'm gonna
grab some ultracet and go lie down for a bit. thank you for the purrs and
prayers and comforting thoughts, jo. and thank you everybody else for all
the sweet and loving support too. has anybody heard how pic or vickie b.'s
surgeries went? i'll check in later.

I am glad everything went fairly well but any nerve damage sounds bad
to me. Hopefully no surgery for you, have you consider acupuncture?
My sister's neurologist swears by it for back pain. Melinda could
probably help you find a good acupuncturists. A different kind of
needling! You go girlfriend. -- MZ

you must be sooooo relieved to have that over! hooray. now i can tell
you that when i had the emg on my back, the tech actually gave up on me
because i kept tensing my muscles. i just couldn't help it. it hurt!
:-(
you are very brave.

I'm so glad this part's all over for you, I know how worried you were.
I hope that by now you are pleasantly sleeping and get well rested and that
you won't worry overmuch about the next appointment.

well, resting was what it was not. ultracet did not cut it, but i forgot i
ran out of my stronger 'script. gonna have to call my rd tomorrow.
i don't remember winding up with huge bruises and mega muscle spasms about
an hour after i got home, after the last emg i had. there are places where
my muscles look like good sized lumps under my skin ( thigh and i can feel a
painfully hard knot on my lower back especially), totally knotted up; and i
took muscle relaxants before the emg, too. those hurt like heck. been
trying to use heat paks on them and took more muscle relaxant trying to
unknot them. has anybody else had that happen to them after an
emg?---the spasms and bruises, i mean? i don't think my leg and back
liked today's nerve tests at all.
i honestly feel more sore than i was earlier. must have been because when
the needle was already in my muscles he moved it around inside my
muscles---unmercifully, i thought at the time. diane, my body must react
in a totally opposite way than yours with that kind of pain. i went utterly
limp, like a rag, and had a hard time mentally connecting/responding to when
he wanted me to do something, like lift my leg or whatever.
boy, i'm glad that's over.
now i am wondering (and truthfully looking forward to) what else can be
done, besides surgery. hope there is something. i've done acupuncture
before, maryz, but maybe not with the right practitioner, cuz didn't help.
and at $90 a treatment (not covered by my insurance), it's not something i
can afford to not benefit from anymore. maybe melinda would know somebody
who is good with disc problems. i'll wait until she's had more time to
recuperate before i ask, though. i hope her mother is doing ok. does
anybody know? i've been trying to avoid sending her stuff she has to
respond to. i don't like to do that to people i think just need a laugh or
two and don't have enough energy to spare for other people's wants.
i'm done, i really can't sit anymore. thank you guys for caring.

(((((Kate)))))) I hope you're feeling better by now. I didn't have
the lumps after my EMG's. Do you have fibro? I wonder if fibro would
react like that to the nerve tests. I have to say that my last EMG
on my arm caused my arm to be in a good amount of pain afterwards. My
neuro had me soak my arm in very warm water before the test though and
I think that helped loosen the arm up for the tests. I wonder if the
pain would have been worse. It was strange, but I thought that the
pain was worse AFTER the tests than during them.
It sounds like the results are better news that you had anticipated.
I wonder if you found a good acupuncturist, he/she would charge you
according to what you could afford or put you on a payment plan so
that you could afford it. It seems that accupuncture may be a good
treatment for you in leu of surgery.
Keep us posted!! I'm thinking of you, Kate!!
