Question about my puter

What would make files save under another name.

I saved emails and posts to my email file.

To give you some examples:
On email. Subject name - Jo... strawberry filling saved under results

another one the group name - the results are in saved under results

got this one from ... saved under results

testing finally done for now saved under results.

They have always saved under the subject name. I thought I had lost all
those messages and they are being saved under another name.

Also had saved a ng message in word. The word doc saved on my desk top. I
saw it and moved it into email file. I was going to email it to a few
people. I saw it in the email file. Now it is gone.

Weird things happening on this puter. I asked techy sons. They give me the
answer I don't know MOM.

I was wondering could this be a sign of virus. I have virus scanned and such
my puter with nothing showing up. Also son has more virus scanning in email
thingy and he said If I had a virus his email thingy would catch it and stop
my emails.

Or could it be because something is dying in my puter.

I don't know much about this puter as most of you know. So if you ask
questions of me, I might not be able to answer them. I will try though.

Just curious. This is too weird. It never did this before. Always saved the
email or post in the subject name it was in.

Oh my puter has been crashing alot and locking up also.
It has sounded at times like the power was powering down, (is that the right
words) like if there was a drop in power. then the power picked up again.

the power supply fan is still going, I do know that much.

Are you saving them to folders in OE or folders on the harddrive?
Why are you using OE?

Have you run the scan disk (Error-checking) & Defragmentation
Tools lately?

That sound could be a fan turning on & off. Get MotherBoard
Monitor to check the temperature inside the computer.

Have your 'techy sons' or Jim cleaned the inside of the computer
lately?  Computers are dust magnets & need internal cleaning at
least once a year.

It may be running but not sucking the heat out of the box. Feel
in the back by the air vents to see is a lot of warm not hot air
is coming out.

Alex,

I don't know why I use OE. The boys put it on here and that is all I know
how to use. Remember me your daughter that is computer dumb. ;-)

Haven't run scan disk, don't even know if I have one. ;-)
Have run defrag. Run it about once a month. Ran Mcafees, spybot and
addaware. Those I run about every two weeks.

Dad, I will have to ask the boys about the Get MotherBoard Monitor. since it
is an exe. they won't let me get anything that is exe without their ok.

The air vents are blowing warm to cold air at times. We have been checking
it.

We really wish we knew more about puters. But now with all the stress is not
the time to learn. Once things settle down maybe we can. But then again I
feel like the saying you can't teach old dogs new tricks.

Microshaft packs it with every version of DOS and windoze.

          enter SCANDISK
          select drive C:\

You should see 3 or more results.

Any of the Mozilla programs or Netscape look almost like OE & are
much safer.

Scandisk or "Error Checking" is part of windows & can be found by
clicking on "My Computer" then right clicking the C drive, then
the Tools tab. It should be run before & after running defrag.

Tell them to try it, I'm sure they will like it. Have them look
at the free Belarc Advisor also. http://www.belarc.com/

The cool air can be a sign of improper air flow.

Studying anything can help get your mind & Jims' off your
problems & even dogs are never to old to learn new tricks. ^_^

I try to learn something new every day.

Thanks for all the info Dad.

I will share this with the boys too.

I didn't see scan disk. I did what you said. I see scan for viruses but not
scan disk.

Ooops just saw Firechiefs message about how to find it.

I will be checking this out as soon as I can. But it might be a couple of
weeks yet.

This week is busy with the drs and tests and next week I get to entertain
Denise with my charm, intellegience, good looks, etc. Are you laughing yet.
I am.

Don't have time to think about our problems lately which is good.
Too much going on with too many other people and trying to be there for
them. Great way to get your mind off your own problems. ;-)
