Hi Friends...
Newsgroups still not working on AOL. I doubt I'll be able to see this. But,
I got wind of the 'rumor' that newsgroups were going to be discontinued on AOL.
AOL is notorious for not responding to their customers. But, newsgroups are all
I still use on AOL and I was bigtime ticked off. So, I wrote to every address I
could think of and really lambasted them for their poor service. For the first
time in 11 years, not only did someone write back, but, THREE people did LOL.
Anyway, according to all 3, newsgroups are not going to be discontinued and
they are aware of the system problem we're having right now. They're working on
a fix. Following is one of the emails. (p.s. Life has been really hard lately.
I miss and love you all...Pray for you daily...Hoping I'll be able to come back
soon.)

Dear PattyDFX1,
I understand that you received an e-mail saying that the AOL Newsgroups service
will be discontinued. The e-mail you received is a hoax.
*AOL does not have any plan of discontinuing the AOL Newsgroup service.*
We have a specific department that investigates this scam e-mail. Please
forward the e-mail of this type to screen name: TOSReports@aol.com
Your report will be sent to AOL's Community Action Team (CAT). CAT will review
this report and take action against the members responsible if the activity
shows a violation of AOL's Terms of Service. Our options include both written
warnings and account termination if necessary.
We use secure technology, privacy protection controls and restrictions on
employee access in order to safeguard your personal information. Whenever we
communicate with Members, we will do so by Official AOL Mail only. We do not
communicate with our members via message boards or newsgroups.
Official AOL Mail contains important information for AOL Members. This
correspondence is formatted to help you easily identify e-mail that has been
sent by AOL.
Official AOL Mail has three important attributes, all of which must be present:
1. A blue envelope in your online mailbox
2. A dark blue border around the body of the mail message
3. An Official AOL Mail seal in the upper or lower left corner of the mail
border.
*However, currently there is an on going system difficulties on AOL Newsgroup.*
We are aware of this issue and appreciate your patience during times when
popular features may temporarily be unavailable. This is often a result of
changes being made to improve the quality of the service.
I have forwarded your report to our System Administrators so they can keep
track of your issue. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
At this time, we do not have an estimated time of repair but our technicians
are working day and night in order to fix it as soon as possible.
Please try again at a later time.
If you need additional assistance, you can chat online with a technical support
specialist. Please go to AOL Keyword: Live Help. My colleagues there are
available 24 hours a day to assist you in a secure, one-on-one session.

Thanks, Patty. I knew there was something wrong with the AOL newsgroups. But
did not know about the hoax.
I read and sometimes post to 2 other news groups besides ASA. On each of them
the intro shows, for example, 102 posts but there are only about 30 or so when
I open the next page. And some posts I made have just disappeared into the
ether.
I haven't complained about it because I haven't the time or the patience to do
that. This tech difficulty might just cure me of my newsgroup addiction.
Heh heh!

Just now when I clicked on my newsgroup link in my favorites section, I got a
popup that said they will be going away early in 2005. This was not an email.
I really wish we could get a straight answer.
