Okay, I have not had my beloved kineret OR methotrexate in over a week because
of my messed up white blood counts. Had my blood drawn for the 4th time this
week this morning at the RD's office. I ask the nurse, will I know the results
TODAY so I can start taking my meds if it's normal. "Sure, just call us at
4:15."

So I call, get this total B@*CH who says "Your dr isn't in today, I can't give
you the results." EXCUSE ME? "A Dr has to see them before we can tell you."
Fine, there are a bunch of other RD's there, have one look at it. "Oh no, they
don't like to do that. You'll have to wait til your dr is in on Monday"

I patiently explain that I have been off the kineret and am starting to flare.
Waiting til Monday means 3 more days without my meds. I can possibly stop this
flare if I start taking it today, but by Monday it's going be full blown.

Basically she said too bad, so sad, can't help ya. Then I start to get p*ssed!
Telling her that by law, if I walked into that office right now she'd have to
give my chart with the results. "By law I don't have to give you anything
unless a doctor says so and yours isn't here."

This went on for 15 minutes, with her refusing to let me speak to her
supervisor OR one of the RD's in the office. By the time I finally hung up on
her, it was after 4:30 and now the office is closed. I am soo freakin ticked
off I can't see straight!

So now I wait 3 more days with no meds. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!! My RD will
be hearing about this!!!!!

KJ, you poor thing!  You are nicer than I.  I have driven to my
doctor's office and pounded on the door until they opened it after
something like that.  Of course, I no longer have *that* doctor, but
still...  I wish there was something I could do to help.  If it were
here, all it would require is calling *any* nurse at the hospital, and
they can pull up my labs on the computer (so that's a good thing).

Don't you *love* front office staff?  When did they get so rude?  I
remember calling my PCP (a different one than above) on a day I was
sick (home from work), and getting in that day.  Since I've become
disabled they won't see me on the same day, normally it's a week or so
later.  When I asked about being able to get in before, they told me
that was because I worked, since I don't work now, it isn't "vital"
(for who?) that I be seen as quickly!  Grouse, grouse, grouse...
Smokie Darling (Annie)--who will be getting a new PCP this year too.

I got spoiled.  The accounting firm I used to work for did all the
accounting and taxes for the big clinic here in town as well as most of the
doctors.  I was responsible for those accounts as well as for incorporating
most of the doctors back when that was fashionable.

When I needed to see the doctor I was treated like a man.  Got an
appointment right away, didn't have to wait, and had adult conversations
with them on occasion.  If I complained about their staff, they listened.
Those were the good old days.  The clinic has been sold to a big group and
most of the doctors I used to know are retiring.

I sure hope you got her name.  If she was working for me, she would be joining
the unemployment line.  That is totally inexcusable.  No wonder your ticked.

I hope you dont get a full blown flair hon. Saying a prayer that it is a false
alarm/.

That's ridiculous! There is no reason another doctor could not have
looked at the results for you...that's why they have more than one
doctor in the office!  I hope you let your doctor know how ticked off
you were and what you had to go through because of all this.

Call the office after hours and get the answering service...and at
least talk to the RD....sometimes they can get labs online.  Sometimes
they can call the lab...Please call him and explain what happened.  My
husband is a doc and had similar situations when he left the office
for a half day.  There are ways around it sometimes.

Those records are yours...you don't need RD permission.  You were
correct about that!

If there is no answering service, than you may have to wait.....I'm so
sorry you are dealing with this and that B*^(h of a person!

(((((((((((((kj)))))))))))))  geeeeeesh!  that sux beyond major bigtime!
everybody already said what i was going to say and then some.  well, except
for this from maxine's wisdom---
take what the B*+@h said with a grain of salt . . . stuck on the rim of a
huge margarita glass, full to the brim and make sure the glass is being
refilled constantly.

seriously, hon, i'm very good at putting both my feet up the arse of anybody
who messes with somebody i care about.  can i come over and walk all over
and inside that dragon lady for you?  please?   can i, huh?   if i promise
to keep your margarita glass full for you, too?  can i?  i promise i'll wear
my wellies, hose them down when i'm done with her (i mean, them) and leave
them outside your house.  just say, "sic her, katie!" and i'm there in a
heartbeat.

wishing you a flareless weekend and a phone call from your doctor about your
labs.

That really sucks big time.  It amazes me how some of the least
understanding people on the planet manage to choose jobs where they need the
most understanding.

If you can't manage to contact your RD before Monday, at least save some of
that rant for when you go in... maybe SHE will be working.

Awwwww, KJ, you are far too nice!   If it were me, I would just have
waited until they switched over to the answering service and then I
would have called the doctor on call and told him that you needed to
know your results in order to proceed properly with your medications and
that you had been promised the results before the office closed.   The
on call doc usually has access to the lab results or at the very least
can call and get them from the lab itself!   I sure as heck wouldn't be
waiting until monday!   Sure hope you get to feeling better!!!

BTW, if it is of any help, I can be sicker than a dog and never run a
fever at all.  In fact, it is quite rare for me to run a fever!

I just got out of the hospital, and when I was first admitted, my WBC
was _23.8_ and some of the other stuff was pretty wacky as well, and my
temp stayed right at 97 the entire hospitalization---go figure! I think
it is from the immunosuppresants myself, but that is just a guess.

Hi Jo!
I'm back on the kineret but not the MTX. Count is still high but better
than it was. Just had it drawn again this morning, so maybe I'll know
something tomorrow.
Thanks for asking!

Have they figured out why yet? Or just your body let
you know who is in charge.

Nope, still have no idea why. Good news though. I just found out that
Monday's white count was 9.9, perfectly normal and my H and H came back
up to. Really makes no sense to me how my hemaglobin dropped almost 2
full points in a few days and came back up just as quickly. Oh well, as
long as it stays normal I don't care!

It probably didn't. There is such a thing as "lab error" that is not really an
error, but a haemoglobin can vary as much as 1 gram from reading to reading. We
used to look for a trend, not just the individual readings unless there was a
marked difference.

KJ,

How is your blood count coming now. I hope much better. Have they figured
out yet what is doing it. I hope your meds are working to help with the pain
and such.
