My big nasty flare is finally subsiding. I had been unable to walk for
ten days, with both ankles, my left knee, and my right elbow and wrist
unable to handle any pressure.
I'm on my third dose of MTX. I notice a small flu-like feeling for
about a day afterward, nothing too bad. It has killed my appetite. I've
been living on slim fast shakes just to make sure I get something in
me, and have lost over 10 pounds. I'll take it, but that's not how I
wanted it to go.
Work has been a pain. I have never worked in a place so unwilling to
accomodate. I couldn't stand on my feet or bend my leg, much less make
the 1 hour commute to and from work, so I missed four days. My RD had
sent a not to work describing my condition, but they wrote me up for
the missed time, so I'm on the edge of being fired all because of the
arthritis. (actually because of poor management where I work). Anyone
have good information as to what my rights are?
Other than work, things are finally looking up. The prednisone is doing
what it should, and I shouldn't be too far from seing the benefits of
the MTX.

Ben glad to hear about your health getting better.
Sorry to hear you have some really uncompassionate employers. GRRRRRRRRR.
I hope things work out well for you.

I wish I had more advice for you. At the very least keep notes of all
conversations and actions they take against you....just for reference
later if needed.

yep, document as best you can. there are federal laws offering some
protection.
problem is of course you will need a lawyer or advocate to interpret.
it is a lousy situation. hope you are able to resolve it. hope you start
feeling better.

Ben,
I don't know your situation. How long you've had RA or how old you are.
There may come a time you can check into disability. Just a suggestion.

If you have worked that for more than one year, you need to complete paperwork
for Family Medical Leave. By law you are entitled to 12 weeks FMLA time in a
rolling calander year (unpaid unless you have time accumulated). Your RD will
need to fill out a form and he can select the option of the leave lasting for
the year. That would cover you for sporadic time missed due to RA. As for
accomodations, put any request for accomodation in writing and send it to your
HR department with a copy to immediate supervisor. They will have to work with
you unless the accomodation will pose an "undue hardship" on the company.
