RoseB - 20 Jan 2005 03:00 GMT My friend's father in law is not doing well, and so she needed a home for his kitten. I said I would take it, so she brought it today. It is a blonde ragdoll. Although they are long haired, they are not supposed to shed. They are not known to scratch either, and have a very soft mew. The kitten is somewhere getting used to the place. It has not been named yet. We shall see how it goes. Rose @}>->-- Being educated means that rather than fearing the unknown, one seeks to understand it. RB

I will have to see what name is the best fit. At the moment I have not seen too much of him, but I thought I would let him explore and get comfrotable on his own. He does answer to the name "Kitty" and has rubbed against my feet already.LOL Rose @}>->-- Being educated means that rather than fearing the unknown, one seeks to understand it. RB

The "normal" full grown weight is between 20 and 30 pounds (at least the ragdolls around here). They are so docile (hence the name, they are supposed to be just like a ragdoll). My vet has said that the ones she "treats" have had no inherent health problems (like some breeds). I am soooo jealous!

d'huit - 20 Jan 2005 22:27 GMT ohhh, my dear rose, i don't know if you have any idea how super lucky you are. you lucked into a wonderful companion! i had a ragdoll years ago and he was sheer joy. my mr. smoke got to be about 30-ish pounds, not pudgy either and that's not a big ragdoll. (a friend of mine had a 45pound calico ragdoll) ragdolls are perfect gentlemen, very well mannered and have the most endearingly gentle personalities. you are just going to love your new friend, rose. i can't wait to see pictures of this little guy! btw, they came by the name ragdoll, because they go totally limp when you pick them up. how utterly cool, for you!

LOL you won't need to pick him up. he'll lay around like a great big furry rug, just waiting for some cuddles, kind words or petting. mine would lay beside me on the sofa just to have his feet massaged.LOL they really are adorable and very intelligent. easy to train, because they love to please.

RoseB - 21 Jan 2005 14:41 GMT He had a difficult time sleeping last night. I wasn't sure he was eating as he avoids coming into tke kitchen but he must have come in during the night as the bowl is empty.
He is still really timid, but we played "string" last night and I was able to lure him out a bit more. Rose @}>->-- Being educated means that rather than fearing the unknown, one seeks to understand it. RB

Oh, I want one, they sound lovely. Our cat weighs 14 pounds but is not what I would call easy to train. However, she has me pretty well trained. I had never heard of a ragdoll before, tried to get some information from Google but there were no pictures or descriptions. --- Joan

my cat looks similar to the cat in the larger picture, but his points are a paler grey.

Joan Carter - 22 Jan 2005 01:09 GMT >my cat looks similar to the cat in the larger picture, but his points >are a paler grey. Thanks, Rose, what beautiful cats. Because of the long hair do they tend to mat? Sounds like they need daily combing. --- Joan

[quoted text clipped - 4 lines] > brushing, but I don't think it needs to be done daily. > Rose @}>->-- as long as your cat is healthy, it will keep its own fur well groomed. with long haired cats, how well they groom themselves is also a clue to how well they are feeling. once in awhile, normally, there will only be a couple of spots where a cat can't reach well, like under its chin. it's not a major job. i teach kittens to enjoy being brushed, by keeping the experience short in duration and giving treats, lots of eye contact and lots of soft talking to them, during the process.
my himalayan tortie is long haired, as is my norwegian forest cat and they take good care of their own coats. one of them now even tries to brush herself, as soon as she sees the brush she rubs herself against it.<smile> with long haired cats, you do have to pay attention to hairball aides for them, ocassionally. one of my friends just gives her cat a slug of butter ocassionally. i opt for the fish oil paste. but, my two long hairs shed a bunch, not like my seal point ragdoll.

Caroline Marold - 20 Jan 2005 22:41 GMT Those are sweet cuddly but also big. I wouldn't be able to lift a full grown one with my hands. Barely can pick up Paku but he never wants to be picked up. Ragdoll's love it. My daughter and husband are looking at a kitten in San something tonight. The might bring him home. He is white and orange and is said to be really cuddly and needy of another cat in the house. This is good as it will give Fritz something to do. Hope it works out for the both of you. :) Duckie
