Duckie, what is the hotel's name and phone number?

Should we make reservations for Friday & Saturday,
or add Sunday?

Can you tell we've never been to a gimpfest?  <g>

LOL  Chief, it's like any other trip...you book the nights not the days.
So, if you're getting there Friday afternoon and leaving Sunday, you would
book a room for Friday and Saturday.  Then you'd check out Sunday morning.

Hope to get there!  DeeTee

I will see what I can figure out some activities for everyone.  The
gardens should be at their peak that time of year.  The Omsi, the
science museum  is also interesting as is the zoo.  Omsi has the
Omnimax the screen is 5 stories high.   Give me an idea on your
interests and I will see what I can find.  -- MZ

Here is some of the information on the Omnsi and the Omnimax theater.

Here are some of the garden links:

Willamette valley and the NW in general is well known for their
gardens we have a mild climate ideal for growing flowers and nursery
stock.  Nursery stock is a huge business in Oregon.  I  think we are
2nd or 3rd in the nation for nursery stock, and we are number 1 for
producing  Japanese Maples for nurseries.

Kelly C do you have some suggestions?

I was just sitting here, wracking my brains for stuff to do that's close by.
I'm an adrenaline junkie at heart, so would be inclined to check out the
CART races while I'm there.LOL

I guess it really depends on the interests of the group and what kinds of
things you're into. Those who want good shopping and funky stores, etc.
might like to make a trip to the Pearl District, which is experiencing a
major renovation. http://www.shopthepearl.com/tour.htm

Downtown Portland  is great for just wandering the shops and coffee houses.
I've never been to the Rose Garden and wouldn't mind checking that out. Oh,
I've also never been to Powell's books. I know, bad Oregonian, no cookie.
We've just never made the effort, even after all these trips to Portland
with Rachel. That would be fun...at least for this bookworm.:o) Here's a
cool link: http://www.powells.com/citytour.html

Anyway, gotta take the kidlet to school, I'll think on this more when I get
home.

Some of these would require transportation for example the spruce
goose is in Mc Minnville  about 20 -25 miles from Portland.  If you
want to visit those you would need transportation, which might not be
a big issue if folks were planning to rent a car.  The max goes  to
the Portland Airport.

If you have transportation the drive up the Columbia Gorge is
spectacular.  Multnomah falls and the Bonneville Dam are very
interesting.  They have underwater windows on the fish ladders and you
can watch the salmon making their way up the ladders.

Mt Hood is also interesting, the lodge is a magnificent CCC structure
done by artisans.  Full of art and carvings, but it is further out.

Stern wheeler takes off from Portland but takes all day.  Interesting
to see the vegetation change from wet west side Doug fir to dry sage
brush and wheat fields.  Ecologically it always fascinates me (but
then I work in Forestry!)

"Transportation for tours will be on deluxe air-conditioned motor
coaches.  Driver's gratuities are included in the cost of all tours
and those tours with a professional tour guide also include guide
gratuities.  All admission fees are included for listed attractions
in all tours.  All tours (except 2- and 4-day Pre-Convention Tours)
will depart from and return to the Oregon Convention Center"

Admittedly, the convention will host thousands of dancers and
they probably expect a couple hundred on each tour, which
explains the low cost for the bus/tips/admission fees/etc.

Kelly, if you decide to do that, please let me know.  I haven't officially
signed on yet, but i fully hope to be on a corner with a flag in my hand...
maybe we could meet up and tour the pits :-)

Thanks, Janet! Sounds like fun...I'll keep it on my short list and let you
know as we get closer if it works into the schedule.
